What should I look for, in a surgeon, for breast implants? Also, what questions should I ask at a consultation?
B. I would definitely look for someone who has experience doing that kind of surgery on african-americans. Our skin tends to scar and develop keloids more so than caucasian skin or other ethnic groups.

Make sure he is certified by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. He shall have an annual valid license and you shall be able to verify it's active directly at the 800 number of the ASPS.
I would also suggest to get plenty of customer's before and after pictures, and have the opportunity to call a few of those patients and talk to them about their overall experience.
After all, that is not a cheap surgery and you are handing your life over someone else.

Dammit! and I thought I was a good speller :wink::funny: And you're welcome. On a serious note-is it something you have been thinking about for a while? are you definately doing it, or are you just sussing it out?

I've wanted them since I was a teen, so yes, it's been a good while. After having my kids, it's even more important to me. At some point, I will definitely be doing it.

I'm going to keep an eye on this thread for some others good info.
But I would make sure you choose some one that has dealt with BBers before too.

My most important issues/questions:
#1 Implant placement (over/under)-find pros/cons of both, decide which is right for you, and ask if the surgeon is willing/able to do that for you
#2 Incision (nipple, under breast, armpit, belly button, etc)
#3 Time off from work/training (will GREATLY depend on issue #1)

Same here. Which is why I opted for armpit incision.

Good advice, although mine wasn't. I had a few consults with surgeons who were, and didn't like them--at all.
The whole board cert. thing isn't what most people think.....some good docs don't have it, some bad ones do......

make multiple consult appointments......most of them come with a fee for the consult, but worth it to check out several docs before deciding who is right for you.......
also......although cost is a MAJOR consideration, do not let the lowest price make your decision for you..........

I had 4 consults before deciding on a surgeon. He was very specific in addressing my body and concerns. After nursing 2 children I decided on over the muscle to "fill in the gaps" left over. The only recommendation I have would be to have NUMEROUS consults. There are board and non board certified surgeons out there that are equally qualified, but it all comes down to who you feel completely understands what you are trying to achieve.
I chose to go with a surgeon that was a little higher in price but not board certified, but I felt like he understood exactly what it was I was hoping to achieve with my body. After 3 years I am still very pleased with my results. I

If a doc. is worth his/her money, he/she would definitely want to be board certified in plastic surgery. These dr.s have to go through a lot of testing and prove cases over and over again to become board certified in plastic surgery.
All dr.'s will have some complications in surgery at some point in their career.... it's how they handle the complication. I would NEVER go to a dr. that is not board certified in plastic surgery. A dentist can say he/she is a plastic surgeon and practice in plastic surgery.
I've had a few friends use plastic surgeons who were not board certified, but came highly recommended.... 2 of them had a horrible complications. One of my friends was left scarred and butchered. She spent over 20,000 to have her boobs repaired ..... by a board certified dr.
Just research, research and research some more. I found my surgeon and I found several of his patients through breast implant websites. I even met with a patient of his to check out his work in person.
Go to www.justbreastimplants.com this is a wonderful site w/ a lot of great information!!!!! There is also a forum. The ladies are fantastic and will share their stories..... a lot of great success stories, but also a lot of horror stories.....
