As those of you who have read my journal already know, I usually drink my egg whites. Now, I don't crack an egg open, separate the yolk then consume. I measure out the right amount from a pasteurized egg whites then consume. I have been doing this for about a year now. Haven't gotten sick either....I read in a few different places (gotta find the sources again) that it is not unhealthy to do this, as long as they are pasteurized...

Comments? I know, I know...EW! ;)

But why? That can't taste good and I would rather cook them and make something good with them.

Well this goes back to when I was consuming a lot (see my journal for that description...) I just couldn't handle eating that many cooked egg whites. Now, I am just not a big fan of the texture. And another reason which I care not to share in public ;)

I would prefer protein powder if I was going to drink something...

I really don't think there is an issue from a health stand point. I eat raw cookie dough which contains raw eggs and have never gotten sick either. Bacteria in the eggs to my knowledge is found on the shell. If you're careful cracking them you shouldn't have any issues. I've been eating raw dough since I was a child and have never gotten sick either.
I just think it's gross but Michelle knows that :lol3:

My ex would drink straight from the carton every day. I usually dip into the 'pancake' batter myself when cooking egg white pancakes. I buy cartons...I don't need the extra mess of shells n yolks.

The carton ones really don't have a much of a taste or texture to them.

What a pity from all the great things you can do with eggs/eggwhites.

One thing I've done though, viz. add a raw egg to my milkshake mix from whey PP, Quark (looks like yoghurt, but is firm like cc) and fruit. Do the same with egg whites and you have a great shake!

I'd not really consider drinking them from a carton unless I'd be really pressed for time and had to cram in 6000 kcal/day.

Alton Brown makes this point on his show and in some of his cookbooks. You're fine if they are pasteurized.

Ooh, Espi reminded me that I've done that before - added the egg whites to a shake and some pineapple too - blends up really nicely, nice and thick like a milkshake :yum:
