I was reading the Nutrition for Dummies book my mom had and read in there that it was recommended that women take in approx. 0.8g of protein per kg of weight. 2.2 kg = 1lb.

So then why on here do you recommend 1-1/25g per lb of body weight? What purpose does it serve? I was trying to argue with my mom and oma (who is a dietician) as to why protein is important but they were arguing that at 130-140g per day, I was overdoing it and was at risk of overdosing on protein

Can someone help clear this up?

RDA - sedentary individuals.

Overdosing on protein? How does that happen? Ask them what the overdosing effect is, or what symptoms that causes?

In the book is simply states that:

"Yes, you can get too much protein"

Then talks about several medical conditions that make it hard for people to digest protein properly so waste builds up in different parts of the body

hmm... then it just says that it causes complications for people with liver disease or kidney disease b/c it cant be effectively excreted trhough urine.

Wow. What an argument.

Silly

That's not a good case against protein. People with liver or kidney diseaes are a different population. Their cases can't be extrapolated to the general, healthy population.

It made me bulky.
That happened to me too.

Though I'm not sure if it was because the protein came in the six double cheeseburgers I was averaging daily along with everything else.

You better watch out. Between all that protein and lifting heavy stuff you'll get all gross and manly looking.

If I weren't torn between dieting down (currently winning) and my ever-present desire to GFH, I'd go tear up the 99 cent value menu.
