( Here you go Cass. Another question. Am I still overthinking?)

Cool. I do teach 4-5 spin classes a month and a few step classes so I guess I will count that as my cardio.

:ditto: I can tell I've lost cardiovascular conditioning!

No intervals.

Just some SS work if you want to do some maintenance work recognizing that it also serves as a 'caloric sink' that you have to overcome with more food.

I hope so!

I walk, like a 3.0 pace, like once a week just because.

I usually do 1-2 steady state sessions per week. No HIIT though.

I'm sure hoping so! I'm just getting off my first 12 week mini-bulk - it was a blast and am ready to get moving :cardio:

Why no intervals? Fed sprints can be awesome! And muscle building.

Just EAT to support it!

No. It's not just a matter of overcoming the caloric sink.

It's an entirely separate lower body workout to recover from. You're far better off having two direct lower body days in the gym, than having one of them be a sprint workout.

Squatting and deadlifting and weights in general trump sprinting for development.

So how would that relate to Berardi's G-flux idea-it would seem like eating at a higher calorie level while having higher output would be generally favorable for body comp. Does that not apply to interval work? Or-would sub-maximal intervals be preferable to true HIIT?

Hmph...but what if it's in addition to your leg workouts?

Seems like I have read something about sprinting being good for building muscle. Why do sprinters have hugantic legs?

And fall into the more is better trap?

Once you've triggered a response, why do more?

Borrowing an example from a friend of mine:

Four chest exercises done for 3 sets each does NOT result in four times as much muscle growth as doing one chest exercise for 3 sets. At some point, you have to ask yourself, what is this set really doing? By the time most guys get to their chest flyes, haven't they already stimulated the pecs to maximal growth?

They also train you know. Sprinting will build muscle up to a point sure (depending on the level of the person and how much they're eating). I'll buy that. It's just not better than squatting.

And they are genetically extremely fast twitch to begin with.

They have big legs, proportionately speaking. It's not like they look like bodybuilder legs.

Yes, if you run correctly.

No...more is not better. It's just that I prefer to keep doing some cardio. And I don't like SS. And I always feel like intervals are doing me more good than SS no matter what (dieting or bulking).

Of course they train...so do I. It's not like I'm going to replace my squatting with intervals!

Fair enough.

That's a bit different though.

What you like vs what is optimal. Intervals do do you good - they get you in better cardiovascular shape and relatively quickly too. Plus it just *feels* like a good workout.

They are however intense and count as a lower body workout. You could probably compromise and simply do longer duration intervals which are by definition not as intense and easier on both the lower body and the CNS.

But they're going to count against leg growth (assuming the basic surplus is in order) before they count towards it (assuming someone is training their lower body twice a week already).

Of course they train...so do I. It's not like I'm going to replace my squatting with intervals!

My point in saying that was a response to the assertion that sprinters have big legs (why do sprinters have hugantic legs). It's not just from sprinting was all I was saying.
