I get asked this a lot and I just want to make sure I am right (as well as educate others)...
Calories for maintenance=15 times body weight
Calories for fat loss=maintenance calories times 0.8
Calories for muscle building=?
Do you adjust calories for activity level?

I always thought calories for fat loss was body weight times 12 is that the same as maint times 0.8? I stink at math

Maintenance is around 15 X BW (everyone is different)

Dieting..start at 12 X BW
Bulking Start at maintenance and then start increasing by about 10%

Ok, great. So then the 12 time BW already accounts for activity?

Sub-question: I have Nigel eating 15 times bodyweight...he is cycling so much theses days he is burning 1200+ calories a day. He is so lean and thin already that doesn't need to lose any weight. Should I add those calories he is burning back to the 15 times BW?

he lost a couple of pounds? And you don't want him too right? Then you need to up his calories because he is not at maintenance if he is losing. (probably due to all the cycling)
