View Full Version : Tracking Macros
How do you track your macros? On paper, a web site?
I prefer www.fitday.com but now lots of people have told me to use www.thedailyplate.com.
If you track on paper/spreadsheet do you use Calorie King to get macro information?
My own Excel spreadsheet.
My point of reference is the USDA Nutrient Database.

i used to use an excel spreadsheet but prob the last few months ive just done it on paper... i find that is easier for me... and yes, i usually used Calorie King or the USDA database as reference.
IMO fitday is a PITA, but that is just me.

Usually I just use paper. I have a notebook/planner that I keep workout and diet info in.
I use http://www.nutritiondata.com/ for references. And there's a feature on there called the pantry where you can store all of the foods you commonly eat, then go through and put in the amounts you've had for the day and it gives you your totals. Along with tons of other breakdowns.
IMO fitday is a PITA, but that is just me.

I have noticed that I have to add so many of my foods in, which is of course time consuming

:ditto: that is why i stopped using it... WAY to time consuming. BUT if you have the time to load in all ur data and ur pretty much eating the same i think it is a good tool and useful. but me, i just didn't have the time or the patience to load it all in.
plus i just like the old school way of doing it on paper,

I don't eat a huge variety. So, it's not much of an issue for me.

Same.
Plus I have everything memorized.
Ask Noel how fast I can rattle off numbers for most different quantities of various foods. She was like  when she watched me to a diet the first time.
Plus my spreadsheet does all the addition and percentages for me.

I was thinking more for beginners just getting in the habit of food journaling. I am with ya on the variety.

Ileen gets to make a lot of her own choices too. Not all of them of course though.

I used to use Fitday, but switched to Sparkpeople.com about 6 months ago. I like it and it works for me, although the spreadsheet could be a nice switch.

I like fitday.com
I custom typed most of my foods in, but because I tend to eat the same things over and over, then I can update in just a few minutes now.

I like FitDay too ... same basic foods usually and after you add in new ones here and there it'd be a PITA to move all the custom stuff elsewhere
I do like to go out to food websites to get nutritional information from the producers (mcD's, Culvers, subway, etc)

I use a spreadsheet and I got most of my nutritional info from Corinne Netzer's The Complete Book of Food Counts.

i use a notebook.. i write everything down, its nice to have something you can bring with you where ever you go.. that way you can never forget to write down what you ate.. I use a bunch of various websites to find out the info on certain foods (and i hand wrote the info on the things i eat regularly that way i dont have to keep looking them up or switch pages. I also put in there things like how many carbs, fat, pro is in 1g of apple, that way if i eat a 155g apple i just multiply it and it can be customized and more accurat than med. apple) but for the most part i dont have a ton of variety. I tried Fitday for a second! I didnt like it, i was trying to put in stuff, and it was to complicated! It also came across many items that they didnt have and i got frustrated trying to customize a bunch of stuff to fit.. No thanks! Writting it down is so much easier!

Hi Becky!!! Nice to see you lurking around out here too! Hope you're still feeling better ... I too just got over a cold :)

Wow! I just signed up on www.nutritiondata.com and LOVE it!! Erik lets me choose different foods within my macros so this will be invaluable in making correct substitutions. Thanks, Noel (I think you posted the link).
