View Full Version : Question
I have been lifting weights for over 2 years and last September, I got Lyme Disease. It pretty much knocked me down for the count and my joints have really suffered. I didn't lift for over a month and when I started back, injuries keep me out another month. My question for the board is other than a glucosamine product, what can I do to keep my joints from popping? They have never popped before and now they sound like I'm an old man. I want to start losing weight again but I'm worried about not getting the vital supplements to keep synovial fluid in my joints.

Welcome to the board. You are starting off with a bang!!
Erik might know a bit more abou this, but are you taking Fish oils?
Pure Cod Liver Oil and Omega-3 Fish Oil: providing a rich source of EPA and DHA. These oils are converted into beneficial prostaglandins and may help keep joints supple flexible.

I also found this (from someone else that had Lyme Disease):
Fish oil is a natural anti-inflammatory plus is proven to be heart-healthy. I had taken it for years before Lyme for inflammation from autoimmune diseases. I was delighted when my Lyme doctor recommended it to help the hip pain I get from Lyme - he feels the Lyme has inflamed my hip and the fish oil would be a good alternative to anti-inflammatory medications given my sensitivity to drugs. I recommend looking for a brand that is tested to be free of heavy metals (such as Carlson's), Some people get a fishy aftertaste but I figure it's a small price to pay.
I haven't thought of omega-3's, I'll give them a try.

I take quite a few supps and notice a difference in my joints when consistently taking my fish oils. They used to pop often, but now I really can't remember the last time that they did. I attribute most of that to the fish oils as they are really the only difference. :)
I started some Fish Oil 1000mg 3 times a day today. I don't know about the metal content, but it's derived from herring, anchovy, mackerel, sardine, and salmon. I figure the smaller and younger the fish, the less heavy metal content.

Consumer labs has done tests on a large number of commercially available fish oil products and the issues of contamination is more scare tactic than anything it turns out. For example, most do not have mercury issues.
3000mg a day is going to be too low. You need to up the dose.
Me finding a correct RDA on Fish Oil is like Bama beating Auburn. I guess it will happen eventually. I've seen 2gm to 4gm as the suggested amount. What do you think?

I would take 6-9 fish oils a day. (1000mg each)
