Decline, Incline or Flat.
I was thinking about this after we have had all of those discussions about which should be stronger...your RDL or your CDL?
Decline should be strongest all else being equal. Incline should be weakest.

hush it...I was trying to get ppl to talk about this :gay:
I'm just saying what it normally will be.
But there's also the issue of what you're used to doing. So if I always flat bench, I'm probably going to be a more proficient bencher than I am a decline bencher.
I think right now I can probably do more flat than decline, but I'm just guessing. I don't really like decline.
My best flat bench was 315x4. My best incline was 275x4.
I don't do decline very much, or ever tested my max on it, so I can't say. I know my flat is stronger than incline. Always has been. Decline is akward for me.

i've never done decline.
I am/feel strong(er) with DB (incline) (which should be harder?) :D
I prefer incline benching.
So what does that mean if your incline is stronger than your flat bench press?

Weak pecs.

I have declined a long time ago, but not in a long, long time. At the time, I could go heavier than my reg bench.
Between Incline and flat, I can go heavier flat.

Not always necessarily that as much as it may be that you have strong shoulders and triceps that do the brunt of the work.

I'm stronger on flat bench than on incline bench.
I haven't done decline bench in a long time, so I have no idea where it's at.

I'm much stronger on flat than incline...like I can use almost 2x the weight. I can strict OHP as much as I can incline. My decline and flat might be about the same...hard to tell for sure because unracking the bar on decline is a lot harder for me, and I can only do them close-grip because of that.

So why is it people don't decline bench that much? I never do. I feel out of control in that position.
Is it beneficial to decline bench? Should we be doing it or does it not really matter?
My flat is stronger than my incline, BTW.

Probably cos your lower pecs are covered by your boobs. I actually heard a guy tell another guy today at the gym that if he doesn't decline bench his lower pecs start to get flat  I was
As for me, last time I checked I was strongest on my decline work and weakest on my incline. I haven't done decline work for almost 2 years now though.

When I was including the decline bench in my training, I was strongest on the decline, followed by the flat (although not by that much) and then weakest on the incline.
I haven't done decline bench in a long time, so I can't compare now. But my flat bench is definitely stronger than my incline bench.
I haven't declined in years, so I'm stronger on the flat bench. I also don't incline as much as I used to, only rotating it in every other week. Lifting weights is easy, eating right is the real issue. I start tomorrow!
So what does that mean if your incline is stronger than your flat bench press?

Weak pecs.
There may be some form issues as well.
There may be some form issues as well.
No doubt on that one. I have since gotten help and corrected it.
I also think I have been doing my incline press too steep, and hitting my shoulders more than my chest.
Interesting thread. I've never done decline before, but my SO likes them, so I was contemplating doing them instead of hang cleans + military presses.
The decline bench setup is awkward. Unless you'd do them in a Smith (kills the wrists) I'll have to do it with dumbbells and then it's going to be a 'bitch' to do it myself.
One would def need a spotter here. Or, with a bb , a power cage.
I just might want to hunt for a spotter, but since there's only 1 to 2 gym trainers I trust and not all that many people that train in my gym, I'm not sure if I will have the patience for it.
BTW, don't do incline often either.. and am definitely weaker here too.
