I've been sick since before Christams. It first started with a sore throat some kind of infections, so I went to my dr and he gave me a prescrip for antiobiotics. The sore throat went away and I went home for christmas, the sore throat was back and I end up with laryngitis. So I come back home, and a week or so after I am back at the doctors becuase I was so tired that you couldn't have paid me to keep my eyes open. SO I end up having what the dr said sounds like a sinus infection since I was hacking up things in earth tones (YUCK) SO he gave me an antiobiotic. Well that prescription ran out and I was in the same situation. So I had him call in another prescription (STRONGER) and just yesterday I had a sore throat and today I am so congested, and my breathing (I have asthma) is on the poor side.

I work out, eat healthy, and take vitamins & supplements!

Any suggestions. I'll be done with my second fully week of antiobiotic on Wed and if I still feel like I feel now, then I'll need to do something.

I'm so sorry! Being sick is the worst, and for so long....

I'd be asking the doctor to do some tests to find out what you actually have instead what it "sounds like."

I hope you're feeling better soon.

Inatic: I don't think it is mono. I believe that antiobiotics make you get a rash when you have mono. But a mono like illness is what I am worried that I have becuse at the end of this week I will have been sick for 2 months. But what do I know LOL! I guess blood tests will be the next step! UGH

I am frustrated becuase I am living such a healthly lifestyle, more than ever in my life, but I've been sick for so long!

Synergyb3: thanks! I'll be calling the doctor soon because the antiobiotics run out on Wed and unless things dramatically change I'll be needing some other type of remedy.

donnajo: Thanks, I hope so too! It is really cramping my style

Did the Dr do any bloodwork?

What antibiotics did he put you on?

No he has not done any blood work. I'm not really a big fan of him but at his office I only have to pay a copay, which is cool since my insurance doesn't have a copay, I have a deductable. SO if I went anywhere else I would get charged the entire amount, which honestly I cannot pay. So I might just call him and tell him I want bloodwork done and can he just write me a referral.

First round of antibiotics was amoxicilin and now I am on ciproflozacn.

Thanks

Thanks for checking Synergyb3. Well I am not feeling as tired. I went to work but left at 10 I was so freaking tired and congested and just groggy... But I do feel a little better since I slept till about 4:30, I did have to go to my second job :( that was just 5:30-8pm.

I decided that I am not going to continue training for the half marathon I was going to do. Since I've been sick I have not been able to keep up with the training schedule. Not to mention I think it may have been counter productive. It's frustrating but I think it needs to be done.

I might try probiotics, I've heard they can help.

Just a little info.

Yes, a sore throat sounds like a bacterial infection so you would think a gram positive bacteria like strep. Without bloodwork, there is no way know exactly what is going on. Viruses don't usually last this long so you would think it is a bacterial infection. Amoxicillin is a common choice for uncomplicated infections but it's not nearly as effective as it used to be. So he gives you a stronger antibiotic like Cipro (ciprofloxicin) that is usually effective. The only problem I see is that the resistance of gram positive bacteria to Cipro has doubled since I was in school. It never was a good choice IMO for strep and only kills about 1/2 of the staph strains. You probably have a complicated infection now and I hope the Cipro will work for you. If it were me, I'd want something else. I'm guessing you are on 500mg twice a day for 10 days. A Z-Pak would have been a good and cheap alternative.
Don't take multi-vitamins, milk, or anacids while on Cipro. Caffeine increases side effects and you need to continue to drink a lot of water.

The cipro finally seems to be helping. A Z-pak was my next step. Should I just call the doctor to get the prescription, since I am not feeling totally cleared up?

Also what about probiotics. I've heard some buzz about those?

Or do you think my best be would be the z-pak?

If you are finished with the Cipro and still feel bad, I'd call for the Z-Pak. I wouldn't call if I wasn't finished. I don't know much about probiotics, but I don't think they would hurt anything.

Tomorrow is the last full day of cipro and still not feeling so hot, so I'll have to give the dr a call
