Ok so I just got back from the gym and I did HIIT. or at least I did what I think HIIT is
I warmed up for 4 minutes then did 10 cycles of 30/30.
I was sweating buckets, my legs were toast....but I still feel weird not doing more, or longer. I mean usually I am at the gym for an hour but I was in and out in no time. Am I missing something?
How long do most of you do HIIT for? How do you do it? How often? And how do you work it around or withing your lifting programs?
So more or less am I screwing something up?

How many sprints did you do?
It takes me about 20-25 minutes but my last 2ish sprints I'm just sqeaking out, i coulnd't possibly do more. Maybe up your intensity on the sprints

if you did 10 30/30's that is only about 15mins

you could make them longer to 60/120 or some times I do 20/60

No, you're not.

You can't work out hard and long. There's a reason why sprinters can't sprint a 100m pace for 1500m.

1. More often than not, outside of a warm up and cool down, my work periods are 12-15 minutes.

2. Parameters can vary from 20/40 all the way up to 120/120 for me.

3. Twice a week if dieting and doing cardio.

4. I put it on the same day I do heavy leg work, albeit in a separate exercise session for the day.

Yeah that's about how long it took me 20 minutes. But going from 45-60 minutes to that I somehow feel like I am not doing something right.
I go from about 3.5-4.0 on my slow time then about 7.0-8.5 on sprints. But I just started doing them last week. How high do you go am I being a wuss? Should I go faster than 3.5-4.0 for the slow time (can't think of anything else to call it other then Thank God time)

AHHH Thank you so much that helps. So I will just start doing HIIT in the mornings and lifting in the afternoon/evening.
Wow that is just amazing to me though since it is almost ingrained into you that the longer you work than you must be working harder. I know that is not always the case but the mindset is there...but it will soon be gone

That is my goal 20/60 or 60/120 right now that would kill me and they would have to drag me out of the gym on a stretcher! But give me a few weeks and I will be there!

I should make clear that my 20-25 minutes includes a 5 min warm up and 5min cool down.
I do them on my bike so I'm not sure of the speed but basically I go as fast as I possibly can for 30seconds, so that speed is always adjusted depending on the length of my sprints. It's a little slower if my sprints are 90seconds long

Maybe when I start going longer I will do them on the bike it is harder to fall off a bike than a treadmill!!:hehe:

the longer the sprint part the ligther your intensity would be. There is no way I could sprint all out for 60 s :nonono:

Bike for hiit rox :hehe: I would always waste time waiting for the tread to get up to speed then I would be done with that sprint

It is? I don't think so. My bike is on a trainer it's stationary, but I've never even come close to falling off

I find that on a regular basis. People do not understand efficiency when it comes to working out. We get all the time(noel and I) "that's it" or "that was fast" And this is from trainers none the less.

But that was part of why I posted this because when I was walking out some lady gave me a screwy look like didn't you just get here??? I mean really what do I care what she thinks...but still

I feel sooooo lucky to have found this group and be on the cutting edge of training so to speak. It's amazing how many myths are out there and unfortunately they are very very hard to break. I think we basicaly must lead by example, I know when i ws my leanest I would hear G tell his friends I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it. Train smarter not harder :thumb:

If you still get the statements after mastering "the look", you just have to follow it up with the profanity and then it usually stops.
