I was on my way home from the gym and I heard an advertisement for hoodia and it got me thinking. I have tried just about every appetite suppressant on the market to no avail. The thing that struck me was for those like me who are over eaters how many of you truly eat because you’re hungry? I believe most ppl eat because of the comfort associations made to food. Like food equals safety or food equals comfort. I used to love renting movies and getting all kinds of goodies to eat over the weekend and didn’t really care if I left the house, grazing at party’s. Hungry? Nope it’s an emotional connection we place on food. How will an appetite suppressant help that? Ppl spend loads of time planning their cheats and refeeds. Are they truly hungry? Or is it because they long for certain foods they now can’t have on a regular basis that have that emotional connect that makes them happy. Those who have lived through the misfortune of binging know it’s not about being hungry, yet we all hope and wish there was some pill out there that would stop us from eating. I really don’t believe anyone who is truly large just has a really “healthy appetite” perhaps initially it may have some sort of placebo effect and may work for a while. Any thoughts? Is it real hunger or are they cravings that really cause one to overeat.

I believe that people over eat for MANY different reasons...several of which you have touched on. Comfort, social, depression, stress....to name a few.
And no I don't think that AS will make the feelings behind the eating go away. That is a lot of the reason behind treating the root of the problem or disordered eating which will lead to helping the actually EATING part.
