I usually eat a combination of complex and simple carbs (e.g., oats, milk, fruit) before a weight workout.

I thought that it was better to avoid protein before a workout (can't remember why...have to go find where I read that). It seems like people here also eat protein pre-workout.

What's the ideal meal? :sos:

You should incorporate protein in every meal...

I take it you lift in the a.m. ? so this would be your fist meal of the day?

I would say always protien. And carbs around your workouts so before some carbs for energy. . But this does make me think is there a certain amount you should take in pre workout? what would be the recommended amount?

Most days I lift in the morning. One or two days I lift after work before picking up the kids.

So...how much protein before a workout is recommended?

I don't see why you wouldn't eat protein pre-workout. Arguably, getting protein pre-workout could be more important than post-workout as you then have amino acids flowing in your body during your weight training session.

How much protein you need depends mainly on your bodyweight, your goals (whether you are dieting or bulking), what your target macros for the day are... Assuming you get 1g or so of protein per lb. of bodyweight, divide that into the number of meals you have per day and eat that amount in the morning.
