Okay what should I do? I've had a really bad sore throat for a little over a week now. When I called the nurse told me to just use some cepicol drops and take motrin( the Air Forces cure all you could be dieing and they would just give you that :lol3: ) So 've been doing that and it still not getting better. Every thing is bright red and hurts when I eat. Is there any thing that I can do that is like a home remedy? I've tried the salt water gargle and that didn't do much.

Go to a different doctor. Not to freak you out, but when I had a sore throat/cough for weeks this past summer, it turned out I had mono! Are your glands swollen? I am using cepicol right now since it is helping me feel better, but it is definitely not a CURE. Only for relief. Feel better!
Sore throat over a week is probably bacterial and would require an antibiotic. Viral infections don't usually last that long unless you have a greatly reduced immune response. Keep gargling the warm salty water 3 times a day, but you'll probably need to see a doctor that will actually do a blood test to see if it's viral or not.

:ditto: When I had mono, it started off as a sore throat, then my glands got all swollen, my tonsils hurt. Yuck.
Michelle, if it's even hurting to eat, go to a doc that'll at least do a swab on your tonsils (or the back of your throat if you don't have tonsils). It's by no means a fun experience, but that's one of the best ways to check for both strep and mono (they have very similar symptoms).

I know you were talking to the Michelle who started the thread (I am Michelle too :)) but I am glad to know that it is next to impossible to get mono more than once...that sucked so bad. I lost so much muscle mass :grumble::grumble::grumble:

I had it for about 2 months, and I think I dropped about 12 pounds. Which, at the time, was probably good for me since I was in college and eating too much pizza  Seriously, though, I'm so glad that I'll probably never have to go through that again.

I played a softball tournament once with mono. I almost died. Temps went up so high it caused all the doctors and nurses to freak out. But I had a good tournament and we came in second place. :happy05:

For sore throats, I've always sucked on zinc lounzes and slippery elm bark.
Another way to help sore throat is to add cayenne to your water and gargle a few times. DO this a few times a day. My grandpa taught me this.

I HAVE STREP  I'm so pissed I could not eat all day and when I finally started to feel okay I could only swallow icecream cause it numbed it. But the doc said I should be back to feeling like myself in about 3 days so its PP shakes and chicken & rice soup

Just plain old tylenol worked for the pain last time I had strep. The doctor said that taking lozenges just masks the pain. Good luck, I hope you're feeling better soon!
