once told me that our bodies can only utilize around 35 grams of protein per meal. I know this probably varies per individual, but is that what you've read? She told me the excess spills into the glomerulus and is filtered out and eliminated.

What a retard! Doesn't same much for the ability to think critically and with some basic logical reasoning does it? PhD = the ability to work hard. :sad:
Ask her for the study that shows that. Just one.
As you said, it obviously varies per individual. Would it make sense that a 115lb female and a 300lb powerlifter both can only utilize 35g of protein at one time?

I keep reading that for my activity level, I should consume 1g of protein per 1lb of weight. So that means I should be consuming 132g of protein per day. I don't nearly get that much even with a PP drink. Erik, any suggestions? I'm already eating dairy, meat, fish, nuts.

I'd agree with what you read.
Doesn't seem like 130g of protein would be that hard to reach. Over 5 meals that's 26g of protein - not much. 3 oz of chicken has 27g.

Well I'm definitely not eating 27g of protein per meal. Let's see:
PP drink - 27 g
Breakfast: no more then 10g if I use milk in cereal(I have to start eating eggs)
late morning snack: what, don't do it...
lunch: about 15-20g of sushi rolls and sometimes cottage cheese or beef
snack: about 20g of cheese stick and tuna
dinner: about 25g burger/chicken/some other meat or fish
So best case I'm consuming - 100g of protein a day, maybe 110 on good days. The problem is that I'm already full on everything that I do eat, and I'm not really hungry for a mid-morning snack. So I'm not sure if pushing more protein into my body just to reach a # is productive.

JMO, but I would think you should start by allocating your protein relatively evenly for each meal, with some fluctuation. What about your post-workout protein...I hope you have some protein and carbs then.

That' PP drink is right after my workout, whether it's morning or evening. I consume about 8-10g of carbs right before my workout.

Usually have cereal or oats which is ~40g of carbs.

Well depending on how you set up your meals, you can have carbs in your pre-workout meal, which could be an hour or so before you workout. That's what I do. And my carbs are up to 40 grams in those meals.

What I do is consume 8-10g of carbs and then workout about 20-30 minutes later. I just don't have time to wait a whole hour in the morning. Busy, busy.

I have to agree, too many PhDs running around spouting things without citing studies. Credentials by themselves mean NOTHING to me.

Mine told me that I would kill my kidney's if I kept eating that much protein in a day that I should only be eating 40-70g a day :blink: <--- that is the face I had when she told me that.

I don't even think my bones weight less then that :sad: When I saw her I was bulking and eating almost 180g a day

There are so many of these little tidbits that everyone believes to be fact.
I like the low fat craze. That seems to be the one I am fighting against with women. Talking to them about the fact that FAT doesn't make you fat. And just because you eat snackwell's (by the box) and they don't have fat...you still will get fat if your calories are high.

I agree the low fat one is particularly bad. I know from experience you can do some real damage to your body from consuming too little fat. A moderate amount of the right fats on the other hand will do wonders for your skin, saiety (hunger), aid your weight loss efforts, and improve your overall health :)
