Okay what was the trick to help your nose to stop bleeding I can't remember what my mom used to have me and my sister do when we were kids. My daughter is starting to have these problems like we did at her age.

Lean slightly forward so the blood doesn't run down the throat, pinch the nose just below the bridge (at the soft cartilage spot) for 5-10 min

you can also ice or put a cold compress around the nose, the cold will help shrink the blood vessels too.

Also make sure she doesn't blow her nose for about 24 hours (at least not vigourously) so as to not displace the clot.

thanks she had one at school and the teacher told her to lean back.

You can also cut a piece of magazine (slick paper) and fold it into a small wedge and place it between the gums and the top of the lip. It's similar to pinching like described above. It decreases blood flow to the nose and allows better clotting.

Tell your sister no aspirin or cold medicines with decongestants.

I have had that done 3 times I think...same side. IT HURTS. I know all the tricks to get it to stop and I think Ali covered most. You can also put ice under your upper lip.

I had one for 4 hours once...:grrr:

I've seen doctors reccomend Afrin, but never tried it.

My doc told me that afrin can cause you to become dependent on it. I have really bad sinus pain and they said I can only use it for a couple days but it helps with the dryness

72 hours is the maximum reccomended length of time to use Afrin. I was referring to a one time use to stop a bleed, not a maintenance regime. Sorry for the confusion.

Okay good. Cause I'm sure long time st use of the stuff would cause nose bleeds
