When doing a refeed, why does it matter how long it is for? For example, say you at doing a 5 hr refeed at X amount of carbs. Why does it matter that those X amount of carbs are consumed within 5 hrs, as opposed to 12 for example?

I can't help you on this, I don't know much about it. Which is why I am posting. has this been discussed before? I am unclear what refeeds are exactly. Can someone point me in the right direction to get some info.....? TIA

It has been talked about in bits and pieces on this board Pinky. Lyle McDonald is a big fan of the refeed and has some info on his board I think. There is also a thread on this site with some articles as reference. I think called hunger and diet or something like that - i started it anyway,

Thanks, I will see what I can find.

I know I had done a search on O2, but didn't really find what I was looking for. If I did, I didn't understand it.

Don't think of it as X amount of carbs in a given time frame. Look at it this way.

The point of a refeed is to tell the body that it's got steady food supply. Why, from an evolutionary standpoint, would 6-12 hours be a long enough duration for the body to be "fed"? You might have just stumbled on some food, and for all it knows you'll go back to starving afterwards.

So the idea is to spend 2-3 days loading up, so the body can completely reset itself.

That's not so much a refeed as it is a short carb up. A true refeed is longer than that. The regulatory hormones don't respond that fast.

Interesting. :uuhh: I always thought it was a one day thing. Is one day enough?

What part of "the body doesn't reset itself that quickly" was missing from the above two posts?

Geez.

Ok, I'll take that response as saying that one day is too quick. The only "refeed" I've ever done wasn't 5 hours, it was a one day, all day "refeed". That is why I asked.

Satiety, refilling muscle glycogen for performance.

Why should it come on a training day?

This might be a clue:

Yes, yes, I just thought that was an "in general" point, not really a that day point.
