View Full Version : 5 WEEKS, NO CHEATS
So Noel and i were talking the other day and I had mentioned that I was going to try to go 5 weeks (b/w now and my next trip) with no cheats. None. Perhaps there was some rationalization to that statement in order to get a cheat last night .
Let me clarify that I don't believe 100% adherence to a plan is necessary to see great results. I think we all know that by now. We tend to stick with the magic 90% number as our minimum. Of course, better adherence does tend to lead to better results in most cases.
My normal adherence from a meals standpoint is usually 41/42, that is I typically cheat once per week - but it's a big one so my calories compliance is not as high.
Anyway, I have decided to forgo (at least attempt to) all free meals for the next 5 weeks - meaning I'm removing my optional weekly free meal as well.
So then Amy and I were talking and we had decided that she would be resuming her diet again on Monday and I told her what I was doing and asked her (not being serious), if she wanted to join my in my 'challenge'. Of course, being the competitive person that she is, she was all over it. Next thing you know, Kevin (her husband) jumps in and revives his journal (albeit with a weird title).
From there the idea was to perhaps get an informal 'challenge' of sorts. But it's only a challenge where you're competing against yourself ... and have accountability to the rest of us - as we'll e-kick your e-ass.
So who's in?
I have two thoughts on this.
1. 5 weeks no cheats - that's the hardcore version.
2. 5 weeks with NOTHING outside of your PLANNED free meals. (which will still net you 95% every week) - the version everyone should be on anyway. :p
You have to check in with how your day went at the end of the day, and you have to be honest.
You can't cheat!

cake walk...I am in. :D
Yeah, because you get cheat DAYS in your plan.
But even still, yes, this will be a cakewalk for you, since you never take optional free meals.
Now, one question- Can I have an all evening cheat at the end? OF course only to show support for others

Ahh, yes. You have to say what version you're doing.
Perhaps if you habitually only take your free meals and never any unplanned cheats, you have to go to the HARDCORE, since you're already doing version 2.
But if you struggle with compliance (sticking only to planned free meals), version 2 is still a big step up and you can go with that.

I figured I'd give the option - really, it's about getting each person to take themselves to the next level anyway right?
For someone easily following a 90% plus plan, going to 100% is the only way up. For someone struggling to even meet a consistent 90%, getting to 95% every week is as hard, if not harder (since they have more issues with off plan eating).
I think it'd be cool to just skip the cheats entirely, but I don't want to exclude anyone - more participants the better.
The big thing is NO OFF PLAN EATING / UNPLANNED CHEATS.

Fair enough. I'm going to go the hardcore route, though I can't say for certain that I won't eat off plan (i.e. if I am out for a social dinner or something.) I can say that whatever it is that I eat, it will be chicken and veggies or something along those lines :)

I still have to follow guidelines and low carb it for 4-1/2 days. I get 1350 cals and 70g carbs/day from Sun-Thurs afternoon. I weigh 174lbs. I'd say yes, but I just went 11 weeks without a cheat!! I had my first free meal after going nearly three months without one, and now it's been another two weeks since then. My son's 4th birthday is tomorrow, but I don't think I'm going to take a free meal even then because most of the food we're having is either NOT WORTH the cheat (I kind of planned that on purpose) or totally on my plan (I'm making sure I have tons of vegetables and shrimp).
So normally, I would've joined in happily, but now that I've lost the weight I wanted to lose, when an opportunity for sushi date night comes up soon, I'm going to take it!
And BTW, I wanted to say that foregoing weekly cheat meals MOST DEFINITELY produces results. I am amazed at my progress over the last three months, and I know that being on-plan 100% of the time was the key. (I too have big cheats Erik!)
I am SO NOT in! :girly:

Well, the reason I chose 5 weeks was because that was the approximate time before the NPC Junior USAs where a handful of us are getting together to support our beloved Noel, as well as Hollie Higdon and Laura Rose, who are competing.

Well, the reason I chose 5 weeks was because that was the approximate time before the NPC Junior USAs where a handful of us are getting together to support our beloved Noel, as well as Hollie Higdon and Laura Rose, who are competing.
I'm leaving on the Wednesday.
I'm thinking 4 weeks might be a nicer, round number, although I'm likely going until Friday, May 16 - Noel's fat loading dinner.
May 16th it is then. No "exam is done-yay!" meal for me then!

I'm starting tomorrow providing my "issues" continue to improve. I had to cut back my protein this weekend :ban:
I'm not sure if I intend to do option 1 or 2, but for SURE I know I will take a free meal on May 3 as I am going to a wedding out of town :hehe:
DAY 1
100% on plan!! My daughter even handed me her ice cream cone cause she was done (just the cone part- my favorite) and I threw it away :brava:
Finishing my 4th liter of water now.

I have the hardest time getting all the water in.
I have the hardest time getting all the water in.
okay this is gonna sound crazy but I make it a "game" so I can get it all in. If I am on the go I take my big jug with me and at every stop light I have to chug water. I usually count to 10 in my head. If I hit several stop lights I get more than my 4 liters in over a days time.
When I am at home, I set my microwave timer for every hour, and drink 10-12 ounces every hour. Between workout and this, I usually have not problem getting it in.

Ok, I am new here, but took this challenge as well. Have not officially started w/ Erik, sometime soon, like in a week or two? I have been contest dieting for awhile, too long in fact............
This will be easy this week as I am prepping for another show on Saturday. Water......try 2.5 gallons/day Sunday through Wednesday!!!! I know where every bathroom in the county is, Kroger, coffee shops, gas stations, yes, gas stations. Ewwww.
Keep up the strict work everyone!
Oh....and Carolyn, if you are around, your abs are awesome, I hope to achieve that the RIGHT way as well (after many failed attempts.......) Please tell me this is due to LBF plan?

...I did not eat any of the yummy pies we made. :irule:
I wasn't so happy when I had to listen to so-called best friend beside me making happy eating sounds! :chairshot: (I always wanted to use that smilie.)
I am thinking of committing to no free meals until my birthday in May.
Good night.
awesome job!

3 days at 100%. I almost always have extra pb, and none this time!
I'm giving myself one cheat meal on Sunday. I don't even really want it at this point, but mentally I'm allowing it, and we'll see if I choose it at that time.

I had an "off plan" nibble, but seeing that I make my own, I adjusted elsewhere and made it an on-plan nibble. :funny:

I "kind of" wish I was dieting for this to prove how well I can adhere to a diet...that said, I think it is extra important to adhere while maintaining or else I could gain!
But I am :woohoo: about maintaining and have been perfect for 4 days now (well today is maintainance day 1, but still been on plan for 4 days! ;))

The way I see it, ON is ON, no matter if you are dieting, maintaining, bulking - whatever. Each stage has its own difficulties. Give yourself credit!!

This is so true. In order to maintain a lean physique, we must always be "on." I'll be "on" for the rest of my life, even if I'm not trying to cut. Keeping what we have is in my opinion, the most difficult part. If I wasn't diligent everday about my diet and training, it'd be too easy to get back up to 250 pounds....and that is NOT going to happen!!!
Kinda slipped off the bandwagon here last night...had a bowl of white rice and some boiled chicken breast (soup). Not portioned enough to say it was within acceptable parameters...but its not going to stop me from trying to keep it consistent however....

I've stuck to my plan 100% for 3 days now! Even though I'm not cutting, I'm keeping it clean. It's so much harder to eat 2100 calories of clean food than it is junk. The junk adds up so much faster! It feels good to have a reason to be disciplined!!
Has anybody considered using fitday.com or some calorie counting approach for accountablity?

It was your inlaw's fault you mean?
Get back on plan to finish out today. Don't wait until tomorrow.

I have a hard time resisting the dessert bar :( I know - I have to want it bad enough and all that. I hate this. I can go weeks on plan perfectly, then one stupid decision messes me up for days.

ya gotta wanna! Keep away from the dessert bar. There is nothing to hate. To quote the big guy, the food will aways be there ;)
editing to add. it isn't that you cant have it, you're choosing not too. ;) Keep that in mind.

I know, Ileen. I think this is the last piece of the puzzle I need to get control of. I've been fantastic with exercise but the damn sweets get me every time.
Ok, I will not sample the dessert bar tonight. I'll get my sirloin, veggies, and rice. And that's it.

Once you get to where you control food and it doesn't control you .....you gain inner peace.

I think nutrition is the hardest part! That to me is the key. I used to work out hard...and never missed a training session and would kill myself on those stupid Cardio machines...but until I got my diet under control....That is when everything fell into place. I am like you..love the sweets :D

Might be the last, but it's also the biggest and most important. Nutrition determines the fat-loss results, not training.

Seriously you can do it, bring a piece of sf gum & pop it in your mouth after dinner, becuase you know the sweets will not taste the same after some gum and hopefully the gum might satisfy your sweetness. Tons of good sf gum out there. Hope this helps.
