So I'm getting ready to get my second tattoo soon and just trying to figure out exactly what I want. It's going to be a chinese symbol with either butterflies or flowers/ or one of each, one at the top left and one at the bottom right by the symbol. I"m trying to decide right now on the symbol though. I like the look of the symbol "love" but I want the symbol "dream"....so what do you think i should do? go for looks or meaning? Obviously love isn't the worst for meaning, but I think dream is a little better for me.

Well, you said you wanted to incorporate butterflies so I am thinking that if you use the symbol for love , it could be incorporated more easily into a butterfly design..like maybe make the symbol the center body of the butterfly??

Thanks for your opinions. I think I'll probably go with dream, and I think it'll be easier to incorporate in with the flower and butterfly. I'm planning on putting it on my upper right bum, so just under wear the edge of a thong would sit, I might let the top of the butterfly peek out a bit, I'm not sure yet, I'm pretty big on making s sure they're easily concealed. I was going to go with the lower back one but everyone has one...and then the whole 'tramp stamp' issue...figured this might be better.
The picture I want to put the chinese symbol in is this: (it would go in the middle). I'm not entirely sure on the bee yet though.

So I called the artist I want to go to today as I heard he was all booked up until August  but it just so happens he has an opening on Monday. So it's happening pronto! :p just one kind of odd question, I start my TOM on monday, does anyone know how this relates to pain threshold? I know it varies depending on the time of the month but not sure how....praying it's highest during this time....
I am under the impression that your pain threshold would be lower during your TOM. However, the odds of you ripping the head off the tattoo artist would be proportionately higher. Your call.

happy to report the tattoo went off without a hitch! I ended up only getting the symbol though, the other stuff was going to make it look too crowded. I might get soemthing added on later but not for now. And it didn't hurt at all....so either I have a good threshold for pain or else he is a good tattoo artist! I WANT MORE! :p

In case anyone asks you, the way to pronounce "dream" is "meng" (rhymes with 'lunge')

I actually think there is something to this. I was getting work done on my lower back (like every other chick  ) and I was having a heck of time with it. I could only handle about 30-40 minutes at a time. I took several visists until it was done (there were other issues aswell), but the last time I went it was TOM, and it didn't hurt nearly as bad and I gather I bled a lot less.

Ironically, as a part-time masochist, I like to pick and choose my pain delivery methods. I used Emla cream for my piercings, and I suppose I will use it for my future tattoo as well.
