I know this has been discussed before, at length, but I am having troubles remembering any information. (this is my carb-depleted smilie)
I am trying to up my water intake.....

How much does everyone else have? How do you determine intake?

a gallon to a gallon and a half, depending if I'm staying home that day or having to be out and about and constantly scouting out bathrooms.

How exactly do you determine how much water you need to be drinking? I go for a gallon just because that's what everyone else says. But really, how do I know what I need?

I drink different amounts day to day depending on my needs and training. I usually drink at least a gallon, but more if I've just had a refeed, and less if I'm a slacker.

By the looks of things, not enough. I think I only drink around 2 litres a day. Geez, now I gotta figure out how to get more in.

Although there is a difference between a US gallon and Canadian gallon.
I can't remember which one is smaller.

Edit: Found it. There are 3.785 litres per US gallon (note in Canada they use Imperial gallons and there are 4.54 litres per Imperial gallon)

Gotta love google...

OK, since no one seems to know the answer, I tried out my trusty ol' Google. Most sources said "6-10 8oz glasses a day". Period. This sounds like an answer someone gives when they really have no clue.
After a bit more searching I found a couple places that said 1/2 oz per pound of body weight. Minimum. Meaning if you are active you will need more. I guess this sounds a little bit more exact than just "drink x amount of glasses no matter what" . But still, this doesn't sound like a lot of water to me. Anyone else have sources or a formula for determining how much you really need?

I am committed to at least 4 L. Once I've done that, I can go on to my yummy diet sodas!
