I enjoy skipping rope, and think it cool to have a thread dedicated to it. I assume this could be a place for Q & A and discussion for anyone interested. :)

 Good thread. I like going backwards and crossing my arms in between, though I'm sure it looks odd.

How long are your sessions? Is it intervals or do you keep skipping for the entire time?

I honestly haven't done it since I was in kickboxing, because I can't even find my jump rope here at home and need to buy a new one, but when I did it, I did it for just a few minutes as part of the one of the conditioning sets. (we had to jump up and down with our hands above our heads for 3 minutes, rest, etc...everything was in 3 minute rounds). Usually I just did it while waiting for someone to come help me with something. I'd do jump rope 3 minutes, crazy bags 3 minutes (not sure what they're really called but the kind that will hit you in the head if you don't dunk), jumping up on the ring for 3 minutes, etc... w/rests in between sets... so it was part of a bigger workout. Sorry to ramble.

That wasn't rambling. It was very informative. :)

How long were your rest periods in between?

I  my jump rope but my darn pregnant belly gets in the way. I have done intervals on my deck but I also sing skipping songs and skip with my dtr. "Cinderella, dressed in yella went upstairs to kiss a fella....."

I love jumping rope. I dated a Muay Thai fighter a long time ago that was so wicked w/ it....I don't know how he did all that stuff  I can only do regular skipping, lol. I usually go in 5 minute rounds.

I Love jumping rope!!! It's what kept me in shape through the winter!I do HIIT with it as well. Or just random intervals.

Liberty it's funny you said that about your belly!! I was thinking a while ago that I'm going to miss out on that kind of cardio when/if I'm pregnant..I don't think I'd want to jump up and down like that with a baby in there.

oh ya and it really Kills when you whip yourself with it..OUCH!

OMG! I remember that! I haven't heard that since I was a little kid! OMG, how does the rest of it go?

That makes me all sentimental...

Hmmm Jumping rope for hiit. That might be fun :) Will it be effective enough?

Not as bad as Ms. North above you, though! At least not anymore...the scar was from highschool. It's only since I've been at Krav that I've been able to use the rope to lure men :p

I guess it depends how good you are at it. I can't go much longer then 20 seconds before my forearms give out so it works for me. I think it's actually getting harder now then when I first did it.

You can always up the intensity by jumping faster and faster... :suicide:
