View Full Version : No veggies= extra vitamins needed?

I get 1 cup of fibrous veggies every other day on my prep, salad greens and very little fruit (berries only). I am used to a high variety and amount of veggies in my diet. There's no way I could be getting the vitamins and antioxidants my body needs from what I take in.
I was wondering if I should take a Greens supplement (or an antioxidant)?
I take a multi, Vit C, Ca-Mag-Zinc, Iron Folic and Vit E.

why are you only eating 1 cup of vegetables every other day??? do you have digestive problems with them??

My fibrous veggies are optional and I very rarely eat them because I'm generally not in the mood for them.
I take Greens + every day instead. I don't know if it's absolutely necessary, but I want to make sure I'm not missing anything.

I simply do not know what I would do with out veggies they are my favorite part of every meal, I am a veggie-o-holic

I also am curious as to why you have such a small amount of veggies

As far as your question, I wouldn't be worried about vitamins but more flavonoids, antioxidants and the like, so probably a greens supplement like Kara takes would be best

but I am still reeling at the thought of that few veggies:sadface:

I'm on contest prep and that's all I get (AND they're "optional"). I love veggies too! :yum:
I'd rather get fewer veggies than have to do hours of SS cardio so if the reason is that Erik wants to keep my calories lower that way, that is fine by me.
I just don't want to miss out on the nutrients for the next 4 months.
Are there any calories in Greens+?

Per 1 tablespoon there are 35 cals., 1 g. fat and 2 g. protein. It is wretched tasting stuff, but I just shoot it down as quickly as possible! Seriously, I feel like I am eating out of the catch bag on the back of a lawnmower!

I think this is smart.

Biotest's Superfood is a great supplement for when you're not getting in as many veggies. And it doesn't taste bad either. Kinda has a blueberry flavor to it.

Would it be ok during prep? 35 cal is probably from carbs.
Or would Neely's suggestion be better?

That adds up to 17 calories ...

Both are probably good. I just only have experience with Greens+.

I didn't post the carbs -- there are 4 g. per tablespoon.

Where do you get it from Cara? I looked in just local QFC store last night.

I order mine from Vitacost.com (http://www.vitacost.com) because that's where I get my fish oil, too.
But I've seen it at my local Whole Foods & Earth Fare stores. I just looked in Kirkland, and I bet PCC Natural Markets would carry it. Maybe even GNC, though I've never looked there.

I dont know what that store is but most pharmacy's around here carry it, or a generic brand of it in the vitamin section. GNC, Vitamin World both carry it. Or you could buy it online depending on the price, etc.

I used to put Greens+ in my shakes...be warned though it floats right back to the top. Another option is to 'shoot it'... little water, plug nose and gulp it down. Be sure to have a glass of something else like crystal light to wash it down after, the taste is not that to be desired.

Neely, Ive heard great reviews of Biotest's version. I may look into it.

Anyways, back to original question, if you fit it into your macro's properly and/or be sure to let Erik or your coach know you'd like to take it, Im sure it will work in! :)

For those ON thyroid medication, some of the ingredients in both those supplements 'could' bind thyroid medication as they contain ingredients that are considered goitotrofic..
