some of my joints, specifically my elbows and shoulders, make popping sounds when I lift. They have always done this so it is nothing new. My elbows pop when I straighten my arms while doing bicep / hammer curls and my shoulders sometimes pop when I'm doing lateral raise type lifting. The elbow popping is more like my elbow is locking up and the shoulder popping is more like a subtle popping sound. Is this anything I should be concerned about? I can eliminate the shoulder popping by making sure my elbows are bent more, but the elbow popping I haven't been able to fix. Is this bad or just annoying?

Mine have done the same since I had Lyme Disease. I take Glucosamine Chrondroitin now.

does that take care of all of it? even the elbow lock-up? that would be great if it does, the elbows are what bother me, it's like i can't straighten them without it hurting from the pop sometimes.

It helps but can take months before you see positive results. I know one man who it took a year before he got any benefit. It took me 2 to 3 months.

okay, well i guess i'd better go ahead and start it now then :) hopefully it will kick in in a shorter period for myself, but it's good to know that i may have to stick it out for quite a while.

yours happened from lyme disease? does it usually result from something like that or can it just happen for any reason?

Joint "popping" of any kind is not anything to be worried about unless it is painful. Some people have it and some don't depending on how lax their joints are to begin with. You will get some popping is arthritic joints but arthirtis is not common in the upper extremity. If there is no pain tell you are ok.

i do have some pain in my elbows and that is when they feel like they are locking up, and i'm not even lifting very heavy weights yet. i don't (usually) have pain in my other joints though.
