View Full Version : Too much salad greens?

Is there such a thing?

I went out for a seafood buffet dinner with my family tonight (Todai's anyone?) and I filled up mostly on salad greens-- to the point of becoming rather extremely full off of them. I didn't want to risk any serious damage I could potentially do to the dessert station.

I know that Erik says salad greens are "free," but is there really no limit as to how much you can eat?

I wouldn't worry about it.

The term 'extremely' to qualify 'full' probably gives you your answer.

But from a calories standpoint, it's hard to overdo lettuce.

i'm glad you asked, actually. I have a whole bag of greens on 4 days. I like butter lettuce best.

on the topic of salad greens...

Can you please share more specifically what typeof greens and what you put on them (salt, vinegar, etc.) that makes them palatable?

I can't seem to find a way to eat them that I like (well I like them but just with yummy dressing hehe) and I'd like to be able to feel a bit more full some days.

thanks

i eat a big salad with the meal i'm allowed olive oil, because i make dressing with that: olive oil, either rice vinegar or balsamic, mustard, salt and pepper. The other night i just dressed it with oil, lime juice, and salt.

again, butter lettuce is my favorite, the brand bag i like calls it "Lafayette" mix.

sometimes i'll just have hearts of romaine with salt, they're sweet enough.

I like baby spinach a lot, too. That can go into salad or i'll sometimes sauté a big pile with some spray, toss with garlic or just salt.

i'll use romaine lettuce and spinach in a salad and use either a smide of waldens farms thous island ff/sf dressing or some vinegar.

sometimes i'll put my protien(say turkey taco meat) on the greens and use a bit of salsa.

sometimes at dinner i'll 'saute' the spinach in some cooking spray and add some garlic.

This past week I've actually just been eating the cut-up, ready to eat romaine right out of the bag! Good thing to munch on. Crunchy. (But yeah- you gotta be on a diet to actually eat that! )

Great ideas! Thanks everyone- I'm going to the market tonight to try some of these.

I especially love the turkey taco salad one-yum!

I eat organic baby spinach.

For dressings:
mustard, apple cider vinegar and stevia
lime juice, gluten free soy sauce, (red pepper flakes sometimes) and stevia
red wine vinegar, rosemary, sea salt
lemon juice, Italian seasoning, olive oil (if in that meal), sea salt
pickle juice, dill, fresh cracked black pepper & garlic

I like this thread :D I normally simply sprinkle some sea salt over my lettuce but these are some good ideas :shades:

I made a taco salad with my ground turkey yesterday. I cooked the turkey with a little bit of low sodium taco seasoning, then put it over the lettuce with some lime juice, cilantro, scallions, and salsa.

I love mixing fresh herbs with salad greens. Cilantro, parsley, basil, whatever I have. Good with just vinegar.
