hi! I have a few questions and I've searched for them but haven't come up with anything consistent, so I thought I'd post:

What do you guys think of fasted cardio during contest prep? Most effective for burning fat? or doesn't matter?

Also, what do you think of creatine? a necessary component during prep? or not so much?

Chrysin: has anyone used it for stubborn body fat loss? Thoughts?

No2 or ISS Rush - good to use pre-workout?

thanks!! :)

creatine works
chrysin I've never used....I know that's hard for some of you to believe.
no2, I've read, can be anti-lipolyptic
fasted cardio is over-rated.

Fasted cardio --doesn't really matter unless you are doing SFP. I like doing mine that way though.

Creatine isn't necessary but a lot of people use for both bulking and dieting. Just make sure you cut it out when your show gets close.

Well, some people retain water while using it. That is why I say that. I would cut most things like that out your final week at least...maybe even 2 weeks prior. That last week I would try to get in just whole foods.

Well, some people retain water while using it.

Technically it would be intracellular, which is a good thing.

Yet we still take it out

My post was not addressing whether it's taken out or not.

blah creatine hurts my tummy.
I do all my cardio fasted after a cup of coffee. preference though, not mandatory. whatever time works best for you and your schedule.

You're talking about SS cardio though right?

What do you guys think of fasted cardio during contest prep? Most effective for burning fat? or doesn't matter?

While doing cardio fasted does allow you to use more direct fat as a fuel source, in the end, it's pretty irrelevant. If you use more fat for fuel during a workout, you tend to use less for the rest of the day (using more carbs). if you use more carbs during a workout, you tend to use less for the rest of the day (using more fat). In the end, it all balances out to mean the same thing.

It doesn't matter how much fat calories you burn during a cardio session if your net energy intake is not lining up with a deficit.

And even if you're in a deficif, for the previously mentioned reasons it really doesn't matter.

In the end, what is of primary importance is how many calories you burned, not where those calories came from. At the end of the day, a 500 calorie deficit is a 500 calorie deficit when it comes to fat loss, regardless of what substrate it came from.

The predominant fuel substrate used during exercise does not play a role in fat loss. Total daily energy expenditure is more important for fat loss than the major fuel used during exercise (Coyle, E.H. Fat Metabolism During Exercise. [Online] Gatorade Sports Science Institute. Reference Link [1999, Mar 25])

Also, what do you think of creatine? a necessary component during prep? or not so much?

It works with the exception of the non-responders. Certainly not a requirement during prep. I don't have anyone using it.

Chrysin: has anyone used it for stubborn body fat loss? Thoughts?

A big, fat no.

No2 or ISS Rush - good to use pre-workout?

Good for what?

Thanks Erik! this helps alot.
On NO Explode (which is what I meant, not No2) and ISS Rush, is it good for increasing strength during the workout. I've used these pre-workout in the past and am using Rush now. I noticed a difference the first week or 2, but now, basically nothing. I guess my question is whether these 2 fall into the "don't bother" supplement category.

If I remember correctly, the only things Noel takes outside of whole foods is pp, fish oil, and multivitamins (I think I read it in an interview...?) So my thinking is, if she can get her :whipped: physique sticking to the bare minimum supplements, then anyone can....

Salt will do the same thing.

I'd save my money if it were me.

Kristyn- don't worry about the creatine! Jenny will tell you when to cut it out (I think it was 2 weeks before the show for me).
I haven't taken it since! I guess I don't need it because I've definitely made improvements without it.

I actually took creatine all the way up to my show--cause I kept dropping weight--For this prep, I haven't used anything except bcaas/multi/anti/calcium. Strength is actually more than it was before. And I am having the opposite prob this go around--can't drop hardly! Go figure!
