OK, so my biweeklies tend to have my measurements and weight all over the place. Frustrating to me (and not saying what it does to the boss), after the last biweekly confession that my water intake isn't the best, I have since seen the light.
TYpically, after my workouts, I'd head straight to McD's to get a large diet coke, light ice. Then I'd have a liter of water and Matt (hubby) would always bring me home another LG d/c on his way home from a meeting or lunch appt. I'd follow that up with another liter of water, etc...and I'd basically alternate d/c's and "water" all day long. Now let me back-up a bit...my water wasn't really "water". It was crystal light.
Needless to say, after Erik realized this he asked me to stop the pop and Splenda (CL). So I quit cold turkey Wednesday and I stepped on the scale today because I've been feeling less "bloated" and here I dropped from 141 to 138!
Yes you heard me right! I'm converted. :bannana: Although I would rather have some d/c or crystal light, it's not worth the price. Especially at this stage of the game.
Just all of you who are doing similar things, try switching over to H2O only.

awesome results!
I usually take a huge glass of water and put a smidge or crystal li in it... my problem is more not drinking anything, then the 'wrong' thing...:whipped:

I've noticed that CL gives me the same reaction. When I cut it, my weight drops about 2-4lbs.

I wouldn't have seen any light if it weren't for Erik and his info on the acidity levels. So thanks, Erik!

did you test to see if it was a ph thing or just cut it out?

I just cut it out. With all I drank, I can't imagine I wasn't eligible to be the Energizer bunny. :bunny:

For knowledge and experimentation purposes it would be interesting to just drop one at a time and see if they are both the culprit or just one or the other.
Either way congrats on making the change over. :)

great job MaryBeth!
I am a DC and CL lover too.... perhaps I should try a cold Turkey intervention too.
In fact, I will!

... a couplel years ago, I did the same thing and lost 3inches in my abs :) ... unfortunately, a little DC has been sneaking my way over the summer !!!

thanks for that reminder !!!
BTW, what was the info about acidity ???
for those that like Crystal Light, try taking freshly squeezed lemon or lime juice, stevia and ice water. :)

That's interesting.
Were you also making the Crystal Light up to the recommendations? I found it waaaaay too sweet. I ended up only using a 1/3 of the recommended amount. They must think my sweet taste buds are broken or something

I think that's definitely the way to go. Even 1/3 of the recommended amount tasted like concentrated sugar water.

Is it the sodium that caused this? I drink water but I love me some fresca!
:goodjob: MaryBeth!
I've never been a diet soda person and I've never had Crystal Light. On prep I've been drinking 5L of plain water daily and I've been having 1 can of soda sweetened with Splenda (usually Diet Rite Orange). I cut that out too when water intake had to go up this past Saturday. I also cut out the Splenda (replaced it with French Vanilla Stevia pkts which I've grown into liking).
I used to drink 1L of Splenda-sweetened flavored sparkling water every day during the bulk and I was fine- but I had one a couple of weeks ago and my weight went up 1.5 lbs the next morning. I don't know if that is the culprit but I'm glad I cut that out when prep started.
