i am wondering alot about this lately. I am not on a very low calorie amount and eating about 12xbw right now. I lift for 20-30min 3x/week and follow it with 15 min of intervals. I do ss cardio for 35min 2-3x/week. Not anything extreme. Lately, I have been feeling really weak, tired and groggy. Kind of like low blood sugar but not shaky. SO, it made me think about hunger. Weird question but how do you feel hungry? Do you just get a grumbling stomach or do you get weak and fainty like me? I have an appointment to the doctor. I think I might have something wrong.
It's a good day for me to answer this because I feel like this RIGHT now! I get heavy legs, where it feels like a major effort for me to pick them up and walk. There are times when I do feel fainty, but it's usually because I've been out in the heat and not been drinking my water like I should. :finger: If it's just hunger, it's just sluggishness usually.
I also get tummy grumbling, but I quell that with gassy seltzer.
How often do you feel this way? Is it around TOM? Sometimes TOM throws me all off like that. I hope there's nothing wrong!

It is TOM right now and that coincided with it. I think there might be something else wrong though. I looked up hypothyroidism and here are my symptoms in bold:
Symptoms of Hypothyroidism
Fatigue
Weakness
Weight gain or increased difficulty losing weight - well, that may be just impatience. :lol3:
Coarse, dry hair - it is drier than it normally is.
Dry, rough pale skin
Hair loss
Cold intolerance (can't tolerate the cold like those around you)
Muscle cramps and frequent muscle aches
Constipation
Depression
Irritability
Memory loss
Abnormal menstrual cycles - on the BCP, so not really
Decreased libido

The other thing is I don't feel like I have been CONSISTENTLY sticking to my diet. I diet, cheat, diet, cheat so it isn't like I have been on it for a long time and stuck to it.

Separate to your actual question ...
Still 5-6 cardio sessions (three of them intense) per week there. Could simply be too much for YOU at THIS point in time.
True hunger - you feel it. Everyone will experience that when dieting to varying degrees. Then there's the simply desire to eat that's not really related to true hunger signals.
For me - I guess given the two choices you offered up, it'd be the former. I don't feel weak and fainty if I haven't eaten.

Speaking of hypothyroidism, watch out for the next newsletter, as I have Part 1 of a 2-part interview on hypothyroidism.

Thanks Erik! I don't expect NOT to feel hunger but I can't function when I am groggy and weak, you know? I know I would have some pangs but not this many. It makes working very difficult. I hope I don't come across as whiny. I am going to get some tests done and see what happens.

also....just an fyi....too low of caloric intake, malnutrition, overtraining, ect, lowers thyroid levels.....alot of things in fact lower thyroid levels so I would jump to hypothyroid automatically, in most cases if there is hypothyroid it is secondary to another problem
Adrenal distress can also cause much of what you are feeling (this can also be a result of malnutrition or overtraining)
I would also think about your electrolyte levels, are you getting enough sodium, are you dehydrated are you supplying your body with the right and proper variety of nutrients, are you absorbing them?

No that should be good....will give you a good broad view of what might be going on....keep us posted, sometimes Docs wont fully explain what the numbers you get back from these things mean, so I will be happy to go into more detail with you if you are interested

totally agreed, otherwise it is worthless

That's not hunger. You may experience hunger alongside those feelings, but that's separate from actual hunger.

To the last one, I'll see if I can get the newsletter out tonight or tomorrow as you'll find it relevant.

I only consider myself truly hungry when my stomach grumbles and it hurts. Otherwise I don't notice

If I get very hungry, it turns into nausea. My body's not too smart  Which does have some accompanying feeling of weakness, but not fainty at all.

My stomach starts doing backflips. I find myself constantly opening my drawers and the fridge to look at the food... and then closing it. Open, close, open, close. :o
I fall into the rumbling-stomach camp.
:yeahthat:
I "want" to eat plenty of stuff I see during the day but unless my stomach is "growling" I don't consider myself hungry.

I experience the stomach grumbling as well - no faint feeling.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I have an appointment on Wednesday. I have feeling it is reactive hypoglycemia. I am very sensitive to carbs, even brown rice, sweet potatoes, and other whole foods/high fiber carbs. I am getting the other tests too just to find out. I think I am going to have to adjust my diet too. I will let you know what i find out!
