Ok. I am hopefully going to start working with Erik in the future. (I emailed Erik and am waiting to hear)
Anyway I am concerned that I have messed up my metabolism and that my body just doesn't know what to do. I worked with someone who had me on very low calories, 1200, pro about 140, carbs 100, and fat 20-30. those were my low days and I got two high days where I upped my carbs to 150. Does this sound right?
I am really not comfortable with that and I was wondering what you thought?
Thanks Tanya

How long were you at 1200? Have you made any progress?

I was lost about 1 pound a week but it is slow. I am just concerned that if I plateau at that level where do you go from there? Lower?
Plus i am just guessing on my cardio. When do I change it up, etc.

I am honestly leary about that level of calories and just need some advice.
I really do not like to guess. I like to have a track and know there is a destination.

One pound per week every week? That's not slow.

Ok I am just wondering does that sound Kosher to you? I mean not the weight loss but the calorie level?

It's too low, yes.

Are you willing to do a program with me? I would really appreciate it.

that is a good Q&A. How does this sound going by your answer you suggest 12xbw minus 20%
For me that would be 1344 calories
so 1344
prot- 150
carb-135
fat-20
yes, no?

It doesn't say 12 X bw - 20 percent. It says 12 X bw. Which is an approximate 20 percent deficit. You should be aiming for 1680 if you weigh 140 lbs.

Hi Tanya! (Erin from the OCB board)
There's a lot of good info here, and great people to help you in the meanwhile if Erik has a waiting list. (And worth the wait! )

thanks Erin.
I hate waiting to hear but I am sure it will be worth it. It will make me be more motivated.

Just a note...if you plan on starting w/ erik soon and have already been eating low calorie like you said...I would up your calories to maintenance for a bit so you give yourself a break

that sounds good but what if he is unable to take me as client and I know that I will screw things up on my own. Then what, UGHHHH!

thats the problem there is sooo much info out there and how do you know what is right or wrong, what will work and what won't.
that is why I need someone to guide me. Especially someone who comes recommended. I am tired of beating my head against a wall.
Maintenance is 15 x BW
What percents of protein, carbs, fats. Just an idea?
Thanks

I really want to get in my best shape but I want to do it in a sensible way. I am willing to work hard I just want to teach myself proper nutrition without sending my body into a whirlwind. Too low calories, too much cardio.
You would think that for being on 1200 calories and doing five days cardio, 4 days weights I would be smaller.
I think my body needs an over haul

But if my goal is to lose some bodyfat and about 10 - 15 lbs. won't that put weight on me. How do I reach my goals?

I see now what you are referring to.
"Might you gain some weight at maintenance? Maybe, but some will surely be water, muscle glycogen, etc. Again, long term versus short term thinking. "
from the section that Thunder mentioned.

You probably will gain but you have to gain in order to lose.

thanks how long would I have had to been at too low calories to potentially damage my metabolism?

Tanya, there is no one cookie cutter answer...if you slowly increase you should not see too much of a gain.Think of it this way...what do you have to lose by trying it..you already said what you are doing is not working for you so it is time to try something else. How long have you been eating 1200 cals?
tanyab
05-29-2006, 08:34 PM
It has only been about one month but I am questioning it so that I can stop it before I do do any damage.
