I just got This book (http://www.amazon.com/Power-Eating-3rd-Susan-Kleiner/dp/0736066985/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1235618897&sr=8-1) and have been reading it lately. It's VERY interesting and nerdy for those of us who like the "why" in things.

Has anyone else here read it and have any agreements or disagreements?

Her one thing is that she seems to be pretty adament about not going very low carb, even in dieting. Lower carb, but not low.

So far, it's been a great read!

What's it about?

And what's her reason for not ever going very low carb?

i have that book. It was the first book on nutrition that i'd ever gotten before.

what she says about carbs is
"don't neglect carbs. don't cut too much carbs or you're going to be really sluggish and out of sorts-lack of carbs will adversely affect your energy levels and mood. "
she points out a study that showed exercisers following the atkins diet had a significant drop in their blood glucose levels causing fatigue early on during their workouts.

Anyways the rest of the book talks about how to time and combine food and nutrients in order to achieve "superb" shape and maximum performance, calculating a diet for one's personal needs, goes over the food groups ect ect ect

I haven't read it but wanted to after it was highly recommended by a guy at my gym. I listened to him because he has recently become ripped and attributed his rippidity (I made that up) to that book.

Another thing she mentioned that I just read was how she recommends a protein/carb mixture right after a workout, but the study she cites claims that liquid form is the superior form and that whole foods don't work as well. If this is true, why are whole foods on here as PWO choices so often?

Because she is shortsighted and focusing on glycogen replenishment which is not the primary purpose of the PWO meal.
