Okay, girls, this isn't NEW but I've read about it and never bothered to try...until today. So, you take some plain white sugar (I have the finer ground but any kind will do I am sure) and mix about a cup with enough of your favorite shower gel to make a paste. Not too runny but not stiff either. Get in the shower and just get slightly wet. I even swiped off the excess water. (If you hair is long, be sure to secure it on top of your head out of the way.) Then take the sugar-gel concoction and slather away. You may need to add more gel depending on how thick/thin you made the concoction...next time I will measure (sort of).
It is the BEST exfoliation I have ever had. And let me tell you, I am a product and spa JUNKIE. I have paid lots and lots for 'special' exfoliants and even those overpriced treatments where they scrub you in the spa...Other than the fact that I was the one doing the work, this was WAY better.
I went head to toe and really gave my knees and elbows the royal treatment. After that, shower like usual and butter yourself up with some good lotion.
You'll be glad you did!

I forgot to mention that you should turn the shower OFF while you are scrubbing...
Have you ever tried exfoliation gloves? They are my favorite. :girly:
is it weird that the thought of sloughing off dead skin grosses me out?

Nah that's just you. It doesn't bother me. I like the idea. Bring on the new soft skin baby!

Hey! What a coincidence! I was going to start a thread on this!!!
Yesssss!!!!!!!!! to plain sugar being THE BEST (and most cost-efficient) scrub ever!!!
Except I don't mix it with anything! My esthetician (who works in a salon that sells over-priced organic sugar skincare products) told me about it. I thought she was going to try to sell me some stuff... but she simply suggested this:
Apply sugar, liberally, to clean wet skin and massage it in. Its very sandy & gritty at first. Work it in until it starts to dissolve and becomes less gritty/exfoliating. I use it from head to toe, even my face!!!
I keep it in a container/bottle with a pour-spout... and pour it into my hand (or directly on to my skin, depending on the body parts). The bottle gets a little sticky, if I keep picking it up with wet hands... but rinses off so easily. It took a few times, before I got used to handling it, without spilling/wasting too much. But I've got it down now! I have a system.
I prefer to do it during a bath, rather than a shower. Just easier & more relaxing that way. Either way, it rinses off soooooo easily! No sticky residue left on skin or in tub. Its great!
Skin feels great immediately after rinsing. No dry, tight feel at all. And yes to slathering on a good moisturizer, afterwards, of course.... always... but I don't get that sense of urgency about it, like I do following some cleansers/scrubs.
Note: My esthetician uses it too. She said its the best thing ever, for preventing ingrown hairs, following bikini/brazilian waxing, sugaring, shaving, etc... as well as the best exfoliating scrub for the whole body. I AGREE! I've been doing it for over a month and my skin has never felt so great!!! :flirty:
I AM HOOKED!!!
And this concludes my raving endorsement.

I LOVE your raving endorsement! (And Lyn- I have used exfoliation gloves too...they are great!) I am glad someone agrees with me b/c I have spent so much $$ over the years on products that were ultimately disappointing. I am going to try it without mixing it with anything too...never even thought of that!
Thanks for sharing!;)

Ok...I am definitely adding sugar to my shower today! This is the third or fourth time I've read about this is the past week or so so I think it's a sign. I love, love, love sugar scrub but the prices kill me! (I love Vitabath but it's expensive)...plain sugar=much cheaper! Thanks ladies!!

I just caught this...and all I can think is: "Would you rather have the dead skin clinging to your body?"

My thoughts, exactly! How could sloughing off dead skin cells be gross compared to leaving them on?
