Does anyone else feel any discomfort in their knee(s) when doing hack squats on the machine? My left knee seems to hurt when I do these

Have you tried different foot placements?

I did. I placed my feet all the way out to the edge and in a bit more too.

I would avoid it in that case. Let Erik know.

Yep.
I have to play big time with foot placement. I think, check with Erik, he said i could sub the leg press.
Not at all uncommon.
Hacks tend to be hard on the knees when used a lot, hence why I only use hacks for a block of training at a time.
If you have any pain with them, don't work through it. Just change movements.

Ok. I'm so limited with what I can do because of my neck :mecry:
Would these be better to do then reg squats if your knee is messed up?
I need to work on the booty and my knee is giving me grief

Worse if your knee is messed up.
Go see Anthony.

What are your options?

I just burst out laughing. I know, I know.
I'm going to make an apt right now.

Only leg press and hack squats so far

I thought it was only me having knee pain on the hack squat. I did it for 6 weeks and never got better, regardless of my foot placement ... and I wasn't even going that heavy! I really hate hack squats

Hack squats hurt my knees too sometimes; feet placing does make a difference, though. Front Barbell Squats or Front Dumbbell squats are good quad exercises. I am able to go really low with front squats. If your gym has a vertical leg press is great as well.

That comment with regards to hack squats is fairly common I find.
And I agree that it's really easy to get great depth with front squatting. Perfecting a front squat seems to have nice carryover to back squatting, from my experience at least.
