Why do you guys have to complicate everything?

Let me go ask Laura and get back to you.

:funny:

I have a more complicated recipe for the advanced chef:

Put steel cut oats into small thermos.

Cover with boiling water.

Close lid.

Let sit overnight.

Empty into bowl and heat.

i do that with reg oats often. I can get more 'volume' that way by adding more h20

You guys might do this already BUT I am working on ideas on how to take food for hubby to the Ironman..He didn't want to sway from the normal..Egg whites, blueberries..So for him this is what I tried..Works for travel..
6 egg whites cook in small pan low heat
Cook 50 g oatmeal in microwave 2.0 min
Add 50 g blueberries on top of slow cooking egg whites
a touch of maple syrup and cinnamon on top of blueberries
add cooked oatmeal on top of cooking egg whites and blueberries
Cook on low..flip...cook until golden brown both sides
cool...
Freeze...
Reheat in micro for 2 min..I added banana's a a touch of peanut butter for him :cheat:
They actually came out awesome and freeze great..He took some on a trip as well and they held up great!

I had tried mixing everything together but it wasn't as good...

Like I said these are his numbers but I have made them for me without the extras and I feel like I am eating a pancake! Fun!!

Just another way to spice things up..I found that changing the texture of the food I eat makes me feel like I am getting something different!

When I make it today I will be sure to measure the water so I can be very specific. But I basically add 1 to 1 1/2 cups of water and then I cook it in the microwave at a lower power level (6 or 7) and longer than normal-anywhere from 2 and a half to 3 and a half minutes. It is amazing how my 40 grams of oatmeal looked as big as Erik's 80 grams.

i use two cups of water and cook very slow on stove top. Not sure what it measures but fills a nice big bowl :piggie:

I never thought to do this, but will definitely try it now that I know! I'm loving all of the cool information I'm learning here.

Hmm... every single time I make oatmeal in the microwave, no matter how much oats or water or how big a bowl I use, it always spills over and makes a mess! I thought microwaves were supposed to make things easier??

Mine will too. Use a big bowl but cook it on med power. I take it out and stir every minute or so. Then let it sit for a few minutes before I eat.

lol have had that problem and went back to either 'cook' at night in a thermos(thanks Jenny) OR stove top and then let sit.

I've never tried the thermos method before, I'll have to give it a shot! But I'm pretty hooked on egg white-oatmeal pancakes for now. :D
