View Full Version : We're gonna start trying!
My sweetie and I are going to start trying for baby #1 next month!!  I've been trying to prepare myself over the past few months, and as excited as I am, I'm still kind of scared! :o
I've been trying to eliminate certain things (ie. caffeine, artificial sweetners etc.) from my diet & have been pretty succesful. I've been taking folic acid for many months now, along with my multi-vits, upping my calcium intake (can't have dairy, so I take supplements....btw, wondering if drinking milk is better for the baby??) & have started upping my cals (slowly) this week.
Anything else I SHOULD be doing??
I'm am really hoping to get pregant the first time (*fingers crossed*), but I hear it can take many months. I'm wondering if I should do all that charting stuff right now? How many of you do this & how/where do I start?? It confuses me...
Thanks!

Good luck with that. Have you ever kept track of your period?

Hi there,
I've also just come off the pill myself and this is my first cycle without it. Charting and all that other stuff is very complicated, but I did use an ovulation calculator from www.mymonthlycycles.com, all you have to know is the first day of your last period. It may not be too accurate but it's a start.
My husband and I have been married 4 years but I'm sooo freaked out by having made this decision...I keep going back and forth on whether I should get back on the pill next month...lol
Good luck to you! :hi:
We're tying in July too!!!
Good Job for keeping healthy before you start trying. I would say don't bother with the charting and ovulation stuff, just have fun!

Congrats on the big news! Awesome! It's scary the first time you "try to make a baby" but so exciting.
I, too, was really careful about my health and nutrition prior to becoming pregnant. Everyone made fun of me for being too worried but I think it paid off. My son was born very prematurely and the doctors couldn't believe how well-developed and healthy he was. He was almost 8 weeks early but only needed to stay in the hospital for a week!
It sounds like you've got everything under control. One other thing I read about was fat intake. My diet had been very low fat before, but the information I read talked about the importance of dietary fat. I added nuts and yolks along with my EFA's.

Hi there, I'm in my first cycle of TTC. Been on prenatals for 3 months and off bcp for that long too.
try fertilityfriend.com or babyhopes.com
both are free- the first one is really personalized and helps you chart in a variety of ways, temp, cervical mucus, etc,
babyhopes has a lot more advertising and products, but if you just use the ovulation calendar (under articles) it can help you see when you are fertile just by counting days.
Good luck!!!

Congrats!!!!
You really should chart. It will help you so much about learning your cycles and when is the optimal time to get pregnant. It is different for everyone usually the days before and day of ovulation are best. Charting will help you determine if and when you are ovulating.
I used charting to conceive and was fortunate enough to get pregnant the first time off BCP's. Now I am using to avoid but plan to TTC in a few months (I'm 35).
Oh and take pre natal vitamins in the months before. The folic acid is the main thing. It helps prevent neural tube defects.
