These are pretty cool. But they are not self powered.

Before you get on, you put on a belt that is attached to the machine by a cable. You adjust the length of the cable in relationship to your height. There are marks on the cable. Then as you get on the machine and exert tension(pull) on the cable there is a motor that begins to rotate the rungs of the "ladder". The higher you make it up the ladder the faster it goes. So if you want it to mover at a faster pace you just stay at a point a little higher. If you want to slow down you just allow yourself to stay closer to the floor and dont pull so much on the cable. if you come down far enough, right before you get to the floor, tension will be off the cable and the motor will stop. It really works very well as long as you adjust for your height before beginning.

It feels like a good cardio workout. Its very easy to get the heartrate up. It was pretty hard on my low back. That is what really sticks in my mind. Its pretty similar to a stepmill. Actually its just a 45 degree stepmill with handles.

Erica and I use it every once in a while on a whim as a warm up, or for PWO cardio. Only for like 10-15 min at a time. Its a neat variation. Keeps us from getting bored. I dont see any fantastic magical benefits to it. But it is fun.

Go try one.

This is precisely why Cathie and I would both hate it. http://img694.imageshack.us/img694/6361/laughingm.gif

Ah, darn it. :(

I've been wanting to try these since I saw em at the 24hour Fit on TBL. I go to about 4 diff 24hrs over here and, of course, none of them have it.

Hi Patricia,

Have you tried the one in Midtown? I don't know that they have it, but seeing as how that's the big one I would think that they would.

They don't have it. As a matter of fact, they have older cardio equipment than the one near my house at Richmond and 610.

Well :cheeky: on them! Lol. I figured all their equipment would be new since that place is fairly new.

I agree the ladder looks neato! I'd try it.

As for the Treadclimber Blondell, I had one and hated it. I had the second highest model you could get and it still didn't go fast enough to jog on. It also gives you a funny gait because of the two belts. It was very uncomfortable for me.

not sure i loved it.

was nice..........

i was hoping there was more arm 'effort' like climbing but is feet..

seems like you have to be somewhat arched when doing this and that would prove uncomfy to my back. will have to look at a vid as maybe my 'form' was off.

there are gosh knows HOW MANY 'trainers' in the gym this am and NONE knew how to operate the machine!

They say no spinal effort but i didnt feel that way. I felt like the step should be longer.. and im only 5'4

Our gym had one...it broke and has never been fixed since.

The only place I have really seen these in use was on the biggest loser. I go to a local YMCA and my guess is I won't be seeing it anytime soon.
