View Full Version : Mani & Pedi

I scheduled a mani & pedi at a new frou frou spa last night. I had received an intro offer through the mail and wanted to check it out. I should have suspected something was wrong when the girl was "filing" my nails and didn't know how to "hold" my fingers or the emery board!
After the polish was applied to toes & fingers (rather sloppily too) I find out she is one of the hairdressers! :yell: :censor: Now I know what it means when people say their blood was boiling! Am I overreacting? Total cost was $50 - not that cheap for a choppy job

...I would have made her take the :censor: polish off and walked out without paying...no need to pay for a service you didn't receive :finger:

I have always been meticulous about my finger nails. I've been doing them since my mother started letting me wear nail polish in 2nd grade. I got a manicure once in my life and will never do it again. The woman did an OK job, but I do a much better job. She didn't buff my nails to get the little ridges out, so the nail polish looked smeared. She also didn't trim my cuticles at all. I was so disappointed. I went home and redid the whole thing. I wish that I would have complained, but maybe compared to how well other people do their own nails, she probably did a good job.
Same thing for the only pedicure I got. The girl soaked my foot in soap and water and scrubbed the dead skin off, then painted my nails. I said to her that they look no different than when I do it myself! Complete waste of money.

You definitely should have to take the polish off and refused to pay. And besides what kind of "offer" is $50?
I have only had one bad experience with a manicurist and I just never went to her again.
Ladypilot, there are actually some places that no longer cut cuticles due to the infection problem salons were having a few years ago. As for not filing your nails...
I would actually almost agree that pedicures are a waste of money. IF you get one and they don't give your calves/feet a good massage...that's the only reason I even get a pedi. Because you're right, the polish looks the same as when I do it myself. (not true of the mani, since my left hand is apparently retarded)

That is RIDICULOUS!!! You should not have had to pay for that. Something similar happened to me when I got a pedi and the girl had no idea how to do it...I just got up and left. It sucks when you're really looking forward to it too.

That type of crap pisses me off. I went for a massage 3 weeks ago and hated every minute of it. It was WAY too light, too gentle. I kept thinking, he'll get more rigorous in a minute, he's just warming up. NOPE! I still had to pay the $80. It royally ruined my day!
I'd be pissed...it's like getting a bad haircut...it takes so long for it to grow back and look good

...talking about bad hair-cuts - I once literally grabbed a comb out of a hairdressers hand and threw it at the mirror, all the while screaming at the girl, "What the :censor: did you do to my hair...I can't go outside looking like this." She had quite seriously cut all my bangs down to my scalp (I had short hair). I looked like I belonged in some sort of cult. The next day at work, everyone was like, "Do you like your hair?" I didn't pay... in fact the salon gave me free cuts for the next several visits (different stylist). The salon should have paid for all the new scarves I had to buy to cover my bald spot

I've had one bad cut after another
That would have made me really mad too! $50 is a lot of money!

go back, get your money back and threaten to report them to the better business bureau or even the State board for licensing if they won't refund.

I really should. The salon is a 2 minute walk from my house. Am I wrong assuming that anyone doing nails as a public service should hold a license?
I get mad all over again at the thought :curse:

No, you are 100% correct.
If they won't refund you, tell them next time you want a happy ending. That is the level of legitimacy of their operation.

Update:
I called the salon 1 day after i got the lousy mani & pedi. After speaking to the owner for about 15 min all she said was "sorry you had a bad experience, thank you for calling"! No offer was made to redo my nails or a refund. :curse: :censor:
After I told the owner that the "manicurist" failed to trim my cuticles and buff my nails she responded..."well. I wasn't there so I don't know if she did that or not"
Me: "well I was there and I am telling you that she DID NOT trim my cuticles or buff my nails"!!!
Needless to say, I called my credit card company and disputed the charges and claimed that the services I thought I was to get were not rendered!

makes you wonder what's happening to customer service... The least they could have done was offer to redo the mani/pedi.

I found out the salon has only been there for a few months. The owner is very young (not that it matters, but...) and not really "seasoned" in customer service. I predict the salon will not be in business for very long. Serves her right

With customer service skills like that, you're probably right.
The night before my prom, I got my nails done and eyebrows waxed. She got nail polish all over the place and smudged it, and nearly waxed my eyebrows off. I looked like a freak with barely any eyebrows and I had to redo my nails at home. I walked home in tears.
