Not sure where to post this. Basically, can massive amounts of stress cause a body to shed weight even if a person is eating clean?

Not sure where to post this. Basically, can massive amounts of stress cause a body to shed weight even if a person is eating clean?

I lose weight at a rapid pace when uber-stressed regardless of whether I'm "eating clean" or not.

However my bouts of stress, at that level, are short lived... therefore the apparent boost in metabolism is temporary. I tend to wear myself when I get too stressed, and just naturally calm down. As though my mind/body have no choice but to calm-the-fawk down.

Chronically and significantly elevated stress levels can contribute to some relatively quick muscle loss I believe.

On the flip side it's also associated with negative changes in insulin sensitivity, which may contribute to abdominal fat gain.

I've had it both ways that Erik pointed out.

Going thru bad relationship type stress (like a divorce, etc.) I tend to lose and not be able to hang on to weight ...

Reg stress thru work (trying to meet deadlines, too much on my plate, etc.) causes the insulin sensitivity and abdominal fat ...

So are there ways to minimize the damage (muscle loss, abdominal fat gain) from such stress?

I'm still keep track of my measurements and my current lifestyle situation (as in diet, but hate to use that word because of the connotations it can mean) is pretty restrictive. I'm really reducing my carb intake (even more so that when I was working with you Erik) and my crohns disease has actually be quite calm (thank god because it really flares up when under this amount of stress).

I've noticed strength decreases, unsure of whether they are significant at this point in time.

But to put it purely in terms of amount of weight lost in a specific time frame, about 22lbs in three weeks.

That's a lot of weight to drop in three weeks. Are you eating significantly less?

Yes, it is a hell of a lot of weight to drop. I am eating less in terms of carbs and when I do eat them it is with a purpose in mind.

I just know how bad stress, specifically stress this bad, can be for the body either for weight gain and or loss and I am just trying to minimize the damage.

Although, I will say, physically I feel fantastic albeit not as strong.

I would increase caloric intake.
