I've never been a morning person. I hold the world record for consecutive slaps to the Snooze button. I could get up in the middle of the night, walk to the bathroom with my eyes closed, do my business, and back bed without being aware of it.

Two month ago, every started changing. It's harder for me to fall asleep at night, if I wake up for a bio-break at 3am, it's eyes wide open. I usually need to wake up at 7am, but when I hear my bf's alarm go off at 5am or 6am, I'm UP. I don't always feel well rested tho, so I try to go back to sleep, but can't.

I don't think I'm overtraining, and I've taken a few recovery weeks in my 4months of training. I'm taking vitamins and calcium, but no ECA stuff or anything like that. I've always limited my caffeine to 2 cups of coffee before noon.

Is something happening to my metabolism to make me need less sleep, or at least to prevent me from getting a good straight 8 hours?

I'm taking a multi, and calcium/magnesium supplement, and fish oil caps, but I've only been taking them for about a month, and this started about 2 months ago.

Where do you live? Do you think it could be a natural reaction to the increased daylight hours? The birds get by with less sleep now - why not you?

I notice that I have a harder time to sleep over night during summer. I think many reasons come up. Such as the days are longer than winter, we have more energy during summer, more sun, etc. I found out that I need to relax more before going to bed and keep my spleeping/waking up schedule with more constancy, so my biologic clock is not too pertubed.

I supposed it could be the change in weather / sunlight. But I've been a pillow-hugger for 43 years - so this is quite unusual for me!

If I woke up feeling a bit more refreshed, I would just take advantage of the extra awake-time and get things done, but as it is, I lie in bed for an hour TRYING to get another hour's sleep, because I'm afraid it will all catch up with me during an important meeting or presentation later in the day.

Last night I knocked myself out with a Neo Citran, and slept like a baby till 9am this morning! Yahoo!!

Can a raised metabolism cause these kinds of drastic changes? I've been fairly sedentary for the past 10 years, so all this activity and diet is fairly new to me.

Not sure about the metabolism decreasing the amount of sleep - I find that with increased activity, my need for sleep increases.
I hear ya on the Neo Citran - that stuff knocks me out, too - I love it!

Please don't kick my ass for this but it could be peri-menopause symptoms which can occur anytime after 35 years old.
