Can you continue to take these while you're pregnant, or just before?

You take them before, during, and after.

How long before?

my doc said at least three months before. You may not know you are pg right away (even a month or two) and you want that little one to be getting all the vitamins from the moment of conception. Folic acid fights neural tube defects, so you want it in your system right when the baby's neural tube is just beginning to form, then keep it in your system all throughout your pregnancy (a lot of moms puke all day and get malnourished if not on vitamins) and also through lactation time.

You should start as soon as you are thinking about / trying to have kids.

six months prior?! That sounds like a long time to me! I thought I was ahead by taking them 3 months in advance.

You are totally fine that you took them 3 mos before, not 6. The longer you take them, great, but the fact you are taking them at all is wonderful. So many women still don't take them or get any prenatal care in this day and age...

You should be taking a multi vit every day anyway right now, so taking a prenatal every day just means switching. My OB said that as long as I'm taking a multi every day now, I will be fine when I become pg.

I find taking them makes me nauseated. I continue to take them though. My girlfriend had the same problem.

I don't take them, but I do eat a lot of fish... I may have to stop eating so much though when I am pg and switch to the pills, guess I will have to check with the doc.
