What's the longest you've ever had your period? I know the average is 5-7 days. Has anyone ever had it longer than that?
I've had mine for over a week now. :thunder: It's not heavy at all though, almost not there. Like mild spotting when I go to the bathroom. Is this ok?

are you on hormonal birth control?
I don't really know what's normal, but for me, usually every 3-4 months, I'll have a really heavy one that lasts almost 2 weeks. Then I'll go back to my normal 5 day med. to light.

I'm not on birth control. I've noticed my period changing in recent months though. I've heard this is normal in your 20's.

When I'm not on BCP's, like now, mine can last for as long as 10 days. It sucks!

It could be anything - you could have had hormonal fluctuation that lowered your progesterone levels this month - that can cause prolonged spotting before your actual period starts. So, you could think you had a 8 day period when you actually had 3 days of pre-period, followed by 5 days of actual period.
My cycles have been changing gradually over the last two years. Because of my constant charting for infertility, I have noticed all the minute changes from month to month. It is now not unusual for me to have spotting for 3-14 days before my period, which can last only 2 days.
I once had a heavy period that lasted 3 weeks - I thought I was going to bleed to death. After a visit to the ER, it was determined that it was a wacky hormonal thing that was accompanied by my first experience with ovarian cysts.
My advice would be to start charting so that you can see if this is just a wacky thing, or the start of a new trend.

in your 20s, your 30s, after you have kids, ...
Just keep an eye on it. Is it affecting anything? Are you sore or anything else?
Sometimes periods have minds of their own. There's no reasoning behind it. Sometimes.

Nine days for me.
It does happen once every four months or so. I don't really know why, but must be because of hormonal change as the other pointed out.

My first one was 17 days. Yeah, hormones contributed to that. When I am not on BCP, mine last about 9 days. On BCP, it's 3-4 very light days. I love it!

I wouldn't worry about it K... I've had mine last for what seems almost 2 weeks too at times and my periods are pretty much like clockwork and are almost the same every time.

I have a friend whose period is usually 8-10 days and when she's on BCP (which she has chosen to stay off) it lasts 2-3 weeks. Hormones are wacky sometimes and periods suck. It all makes me glad I don't get mine anymore.

Mine are very unpredictable. I could have Niagra falls one month, next month dry as a bone

My periods were regular up until the day I started BCP around three years ago...now, who knows? :thunder: I can go three days with minimal spotting, or up to one month of heavy bleeding.
Just to echo what has already been said...that's nothing too abnormal, and you're probably fine. Auntie Flo just decides to stay around longer, sometimes...
When I was a teen and when I was on the pill, my periods were 4 days MAX I would usually have a 3 day period. After I quit the pill and also after a miscarriage they've never gons back  now they are 5-7 days

7 days is normal for me, have never been lucky enough to have one for anything less.

Mine normally last 1-2 days, but it is terrible. I generally could go through a new tampon every hour because it's that heavy.
Periods suck, no matter how long or short they are.

My doc told me that anything over 9 days isn't normal. I've had 2-week long periods before, when I was a teen before I started on the pill. Back then, I had a period every 6 months and they took a really long time. That's why I started taking the pill. I've basically been on it ever since (except when trying to conceive, when pregnant, or when nursing).

There's no such thing as normal when it comes to women's health - that's my opinion.

My longest was 3 weeks long... it was awful! I was on the pill, trying to skip periods and I think it was mostly breakthrough bleeding.
When I was in high school, before I was ever on BC, I would get my period 2x a month. It didnt help that I was on the swim team either. What a pain that was.
Mine normally last 3-5 days, the only time I went over was once for about 14 days I went to the doctor and found out I was having a miscarriage. If your periods don't normally last that long and you could be pregnant I would go to the doctor and have a blood test done.

Always a good idea to check with the doctor - miscarriage, fibroids, endometriosis, PID, PCOS - pretty much anything can cause wacked out periods.
But the best preparation to going to see the doctor is to know what is your 'normal' first.
