So, I'm really trying to lean out. I'm trying a Soviet complex routine by Christian Thibaudeau. Basically, it's four supersets--squat, overhead press, deadlift and chest press--with five exercises each, starting with low reps and heavy weight and ending with a plyo move for high reps. Each superset is done for 4-6 times. You do two supersets per day--one lower body, one upper body--four days a week.

I'm wondering if anyone has tried this and it was effective. Or, would a heavy upper/lower split with some HIIT and plyo cardio be just as effective?

Also, I'm carb cycling with my total week calories just below maintenance.

Sounds tough.

Remember that successful fat loss is about nutrition, not your training program.

I know 'metabolic' work is all the rage these days, and I use it too to a degree, but ultimately, in the bigger picture, the purpose of resistance training is to maintain the muscle you have as you drop body fat.

I'm sure the program is fine provided you can recover from it.
