View Full Version : What are some realistic expectations?

Right now I have decided that I have to at least try to see if my dream of having a strong, lean body will come true. I am doing the research so I can hopefully get my husband to back me (he is a marketing scientist so this is crucial for him). He knows that I have always wanted to do this and has told me that he has always thought I would be good at it. I am sure that I am the biggest thing holding me back because I do not want to work so hard only to fail because it was not possible in the first place. Everything I have done in the past has been productive but not productive enough. I have never had a trainer and I have never had a nutrition plan I trust. So far it has been my trusty Muscle and Fitness Hers and Clean Eating magazines. It is all fine and dandy to read them and sometimes I try the workouts but go too far and have to take time off bc I can't walk for days or can't even type from pushing myself. I guess my biggest questions are:

1) How do I find that balance in working out and eating
2) How do I find a support person/trainer/coach/etc. that I know will be looking out for MY interests and not just padding his/her wallet? ie: a program that WORKS for me
3) What does it take from me and my focus to be a success?
4) What is something reasonable and obtainable that I can call success?

I am not sure if I can compete but my goal is to have a body that could compete if it is possible.

Well, With LBC you pretty much answered all of that...Since your eating and training are set up. you prepare/plan your food (already stated) and just follow through. Training is set up , so you excute that. Really other than some food prep and a wee bit in the gym.. that is it..

LBC cares about its clients and our progress mentally as well as physically, which i cant say i can say for many other coaches, trainers, programs but a few.. Erik doesnt want to work with someone who doesnt care to give their all. I dont think that money is even an issue.

To be a success you have to let go of the control and follow your plan. Have the mindset to be successful. Be persistent, consistent and patient. Allow coach to guide you. Things wont always be perfect , consistent or linear so dont expect everything to follow a set pattern. Look at this as a journey and a lifestyle and not focus on it as a diet..

Given you've put everything into your program, you should get that back. Each individual is capable of THEIR best..

I love that your hubby has belief in you... now you just need to work on... YOU! First of all.. it is definitely possible to get in great shape! You are definitely in the right place..this forum is like a HUGE support system! And once you start with Erik, you'll be in good hands of someone that has the knowledge to help you reach your goals safely. Take your time, enjoy this journey that you have just begun and put your focus on all the good things you're doing for yourself and the awesome benefits you'll be getting! (easier said than done I know), but if you stay connected here, you'll learn all the things you need to be doing to be on the road to great health.. and a rockin' bod!

just my 2 cents..

everything ileen said, but especially that.
i think your 3rd and 4th questions can only really be answered by you. What would feel/look like success to YOU? feeling stronger? dropping a pants size? seeing muscle definition? vascularity? just having more energy? or deciding to make good changes and adopting a healthy lifestyle? all those things could be measures of success.

Although I think everyone wants to know what realistic expectations are (including myself), we have to realize that for every person, they will be different. What I expect for myself or how I envision my body to be, will be based on the plan, but also my implementation, my consistency, overcoming my own personal obstacles etc.....so you see, it's different for everyone. everyone is coming from a different place and really it's us working with Erik that is going to make it work....he can't do the work for us.....
So to make a long point short....everyone is different and there Are no realistic expectations a group of people can all agree on because we are all different.

:yeahthat:

Also, where you are coming from. Prior dieting/training habits have a big role in your initial changes/progress. That is why you will see some people have much slower progress than others. All of that has to be taken into account.

Best advice- don't compare yourself to others.

I "get that" well put! When I posted this I was thinking that I could never reduce my body fat% because nothing else has worked. Also, I have always wanted to enter at least one competition but never thought it could be a reality. With all my past disappointment I didn't want to get my hopes up that, even if I don't compete, I can get the FAT off. At my lowest weight (5'8.5" and 145) I suspect I still had a high % of fat and I could never get my docs to work with me on losing fat and not just weight. All I heard was exercise more and eat less. They never even asked what I was eating and gave me Metformin to take. SO, I am really thankful to have found a place where I can have real hope in getting healthy for myself and be around longer for my family.

Yeah, what they said!!
Maybe you should try really looking at your goal of competing as if it WILL BE a reality! And write that down! Set shorter-term goal(s), too - start with smaller ones that are obtainable in the near future. Maybe focus on diet first with some easier workouts that get your "juices" flowing. Then set a date to start with more challenging workouts.
Set a reasonable date to begin training for a competition (but don't wait too long or you'll end up like me: wondering WHY I didn't follow my dream of competing when I was at an age TO compete!)
We've all been given 24 hours in each day. You are a busy mom, and I'll bet my bottom lip that you don't take the time for yourself that you need...and DESERVE.
DO THIS FOR YOU.

Many times I have had the same thoughts as you... scared to fail. I am very competitive and i hate not doing things right. But, I really appreciate what Amy said (and I have also had Erik tell me the same thing)... DON'T COMPARE YOURSELF WITH ANYBODY! You and i can only be as good as we can be. And that is going to be the best! How we get there is going to be different but we will get there. As Hannah Montana says, "Let's do this!!!" lol

i deifintely agree past diet and training can be a big one. some may initally gain, some may lose. myself for example, i have 8yrs of EDs behind me so i expect nothing - not in terms of results, but in terms of what i know will happen.

one thing i find will make it easier is to begin implementing things you find on here or FB, for example i now eat clean and really thought the volume of food would have made me gain, and it didnt :)

to answer q2, i was adamant i wouldnt succeed unless i can hand over ALL control to my trainer/coach. none IRL fit the bill and i wasnt going to waste time and money. i spent months on the FB group and i can honestly say i without a doubt trust eriks methods and will implement whatever im given :)

I am perfectly fine with handing over control. I am a blank slate especially since I have NO CLUE what I am doing!!! My workout history was mostly swimming and when I no longer had a pool to workout in I just started doing cardio to try to get the fat off.

A lot of trusting/following a plan is KNOWING that your body is not some sort of genetically freaky machine that is unable to morph into a 'hot body'.

A lot of women have NO IDEA that they are fully capable of a HOT BOD. Somehow their body 'won't do that', or 'isn't set up like that other girl's'.

You just DON'T have any basis for generating faith out of something that you have NO experience with: a plan that WORKS.

You've been failed by the promises of whoknowswhat other 'fat loss' diets, plans, pills, programs you may have tried. So why would this work?

...maybe it's YOU, right???? It's not you. Nothing is wrong with you.

You're going to change.... IF you put your part into this formula with LBC.

You have to finally put your TRUST in the program/trainer that you've chosen. YOu did your homework here. You HAVE a good trainer. CHECK.

Now do your part...don't assume 'everyone' is cheating on the diet here and there', or that 'he doesn't expect me to push like I'm a bodybuilder or something', because I DO think you need to put full FURY AND FORCE into this.... LIKE YOU KNOW IT WILL GET YOU YOUR RESULTS. Like you BELIEVE IT.

There ARE people who see little change here, I'm sure. But not because they CAN'T. (Aside from serious metabolic damage)

I guess my point is that you are FULLY capable of the body that you may not ACTUALLY believe that you can have. You got a big part of this DONE...and that is that you hired LBC. You put a plan into motion and are committed. That's huge. Now keep that faith moving forward, and believe you me: you are NO LESS CABABLE OF BEING 'THAT GIRL' that Erik puts up on his blog as having 'HAD AN AMAZING TRANSFORMATION'.

You are absolutely that girl. You're not different, incapable, a genetic freak, or anything.

You're. THAT. GIRL. TOO.

Why NOT you????

EXPECT IT.
