DH and his friends were talking about weight training, and one of his friends said his doctor told him that weight training is really unhealthy as it puts too much stress on your body and heart.....???? This friend has the body that most men and women would love. When he did train he was extremely ripped and very strong, so I am a little surprised that he would actually believe this. :uuhh: Is there any truth in this?

Yes. It's obvious just by observation that the biggest health risk a person can have is regular exercise.

When I asked him what his doctor's rational was, he said because it was making your body do too much in a short amount of time.

If the body wasn't supposed to do that, the body would get injured instead of adapting to it.

Did he also say your uterus would fall out?

Holay- his doctor and mine must have gone to complete opposite medical schools. Like in a paralell universe or something. If I go to mine complaining of a headache, or have the flu- it is obvious to her that I do not exercise enough. LOL

This must be why the vast majority avoid it, and we should give it up and go get a Big Mac..... :p

I've been at it for ten years now. I guess someone forgot to tell me lifting is unhealthy, because I'm in good health.

The person who graduated at the bottom of his/her class is still called “doctor”.

To play the devils advocate I will explain a couple things.
If you are very unhealthy and you jump to big heavy weights than yes you could put too much added strain on your heart. It isn't to say that you shouldn't weight lift just that you should enter into it slowly. Believe it or not allot of people go big or go home when they first start. So your heart has clogged arteries and than you put this huge oxygen demand on it and it is unable to keep up, vola' heart attack!
Second if you are not trained properly and you lift heavy and bare down than you could brady yourself out. (Bradicardic, drop in heart rate below 50 bpm) It is actually a manuver that we use to get people with too fast heart rates to try to slow down before we use drugs or electricity.
Third you have used drugs in your past. Eg.cocaine and your heart muscle has been weakened by it which is a lifelong injury. Than you decide to be a weekend warrior and you put this added strain on your already weak heart.
All I am saying is perhaps this Dr. is ill informed but has seen some of these results. Not many people visit thier Dr. because they are healthy just the opposite he gets to see all the side affects of unhealthy people.
Than again he could be a shmuck
