Used to all the time. Quit doing it because it destroyed my nails.

I do :) I love it.
How come it destroyed your nails? Cuticles or the nail itself?

Maybe cause I just went from one color to the next with no breathing room? I did love it while I had it but the last time I took it off my nails were paper thin (and normally aren't) and had white lines all across that had to grow out.

Yeah that can be common especially if you if your tech is a peeler. Lol... tend to peel every now and then. If they are removed properly and you take periodic breaks your nails should be fine. Also good to use a nail strengthener during breaks.
I looooove shellac!! My nail gal doesn't peel at all to get it off. I have been doing it for a couple months and my nails seem fine with polish off. No chips for 2 weeks - SOLD.
Yay! Good to know ladies.
I think I will go get it done. My nails always split. My mom had the shellac and I loved them.

Hmm interesting. I had seen a nail salon recently that had the name Shellac and was wondering what that was. I know Acrylics are super hard on my nails although they are gorgeous. I only get them done for shows. I have also been recommended numerous times to try Gel nails. Although you have to grow your own natural nails out. I'm still working on growing out the thin nails from my last application of acrylics, but have thought about doing this. I can't keep polish on to save my life!!

Some people can form gels so you don't have to grow out. I like them. Acrylics kill my nails. Shellac gelac gelish and other names are a gel based polish. Good stuff :)

I actually JUST tried the Shellac and I really loved it because it was my REAL nails (I used to do the gels all the time and ruined my nails)...It lasted a good 2 weeks and no chipping, however, once it 'grew out' I started to peel it off, and my nails were ruined. Its not as HARD on your nails as a gel or acrylic is, but its still not the same as good old nail polish. Maybe if I had it taken off properly they wouldn't have turned out so bad? But I say, its good for an 'event' and then have it removed properly after, but I don't know how I'd feel about using it 'all the time'....
For nail strength and hair, gotta love some Biotin and MSM! =)

Oh! So shellac=gel?
I didn't realize that. Honestly I'm a complete noob regarding manicures and pedicures lol.

That's why I like the quick-dry polishes. Since I have to repaint them all the time, at least there's no waiting for it to dry. Just a quick coat or two... and out the door I go.

Shellac is not gel nails. It is a gel hybrid nail polish - they paint your nails with it then harden it with a UV light. To remove it you soak your nails in acetone for a few minutes and it comes of pretty easily. I have had good luck with mine staying chip free for about 14 days, minus a little tip wear. That was the advantage I was told of - no "drilling" or excessive buffing of the nail bed needed.

I love Shellac. Love it. It never ruins my nail beds.
I just "tried" gel on my nails for the first time over the weekend from one of those Asian salons and will NEVER get gel painted on them EVER again. I am certain they thinned my real nails out when they filed on them, and I just about screamed when I realized going there was not the same thing as going to the nice salon that does the shellac nails. Booo!
When I soak this gel stuff off, I will use this product that I use on my nails called Naitiques. It's great. It should help strengthen them back.
Just my 2 cents :o)

I haven't had any problems with Shellac nails. I love getting them done this way. My nail lady does a good job of removing the polish; she doesn't peel it off. This method is so much better and not so harsh to your nails. I don't think I will ever get acrylic nails again. My nails have been really healthy.

I do shellac nails at home myself. I have the light and it's so easy. I only use the clear. It you're right, so much better than acrylic!

Love it.. My salon used CND. They use nail polish remover and the gel lamp to remove the shellac. My nails are not damaged at all.
