The vacuum is not a BS exercise. It works the compression function of the abs.

I'm not sure how efficacious it is at actually reducing your waist measurement though.

I didn't read the whole article but saw the picture of the distended stomach. Stomach vacuums were widely used during the Golden Age of bodybuilding. During that era the trim waist was as highly regarded as the the width of the back and the flare of the quads. I've never done them but I have heard that they are not easy and does work. Now, will it work to hold in the tortoise shell abs? I really doubt it. I don't think vacuums will do much for enlarged organs.

I know several women who have had kids that swear this was the one exercise that gave them good results after pregnancy.

I think Paul Chek advocates something similar to this, although I didn't know it was called the stomach vacuum. I think he calls it activating the TA. Doh...read the book, don't remember...I'll shut up now and practice vacuuming my abs!

Exactly. That BB'er has distended abs because of GH and insulin abuse - not because he forgot to do vaccums.

Well then, I'm gonna start doing this. My waist has gone to crap since having kids, and is especially bad since my last pregnancy. It's my worst part. Seriously.

Looks like something we do in Yoga. I forget what it is called in Yoga. Basically you bend forward slighly and exhale out all the way and suck in your gut, release, suck in your gut and release about 4-5 times and the release and inhale and start again.
