As some of you may know, I'm earning my keep by selling supplements among which several types of bone-building ones.
So, one of my clients told me she's been diagnosed with osteoporosis and has been buying calcium-based (ossein micrcrystalline hydroxyapatite) supplements along with vitamin D3.

However, after a year, the osteoporosis she suffers, got worse not better. She's gone into early menopause due to chemotherapy.

Soooo she's been told to start hormonal therapy (estrogens) but she's terrified it will increase the risk on another cancer.

I've told her that basically, you can give a bone all the nutrients, but without a real impulse to MAKE it grow, she may not see any effect from supplementation.
In short : I told her to start lifting weights..

She answered me her doc didn't tell her anything else but 'use hormones' and never even touched this option.. seems she's interested ... BUT ...

am I giving her false hope?

Basically: is it possible to reverse osteoporosis in (preferably less than) 1 year?

calcium, D3, training and yes hormones.
I'll have to find the article i had posted for TeackK/Claudia..

If she is going to use Estrogen, make sure its natural estrogen AND more so, make SURE its balanced with progesterone!

Thanks Ileen..you're always so helpful! I'm sending her this answer along with lots of scientific articles that I found regarding the benefits of strength training in post-menopausal women.

I'm frankly appalled that her doctor never even brought up the topic of strength training!

One of her friends told her to start on isoflavones (soy!) and glucosamine, which AFAIK does zilch for bone formation.. . my guess that if anything isoflavones don't really raise estrogen levels, but simply diminish the side-effects of menopause...but need to check that too.

i wouldnt do soy, especially peri/post meno with the issues of slowing down metobolism, that is already downgraded.
