Hello all. I'm finally home, so here's the update. Alexander Joseph was born Monday at 8:05 a.m. He is 7 lbs, 12 oz and 20 inches long. He is such a good sweetie, strong and calm (when he's happy that is...). Unfortuneately, he retained fluid in his lungs from the scheduled c-section and was taken to the NICU Monday night, so I only got to hold him a few minutes until Thursday....can't express how hard it is to see your baby with IV tubes in an isolette. The only consolation I could find was that he was full term and relatively healthy, he just needed the antibiotics to clear his lungs. Some of those other babies in the NICU..... can't imagine, just can't. He's still there to finish out the meds, it's a 7 day run - but Monday he will be home. He's finally off the IV fluids too, and getting my breastmilk bottlefed. I did get to breastfeed him this morning before I was discharged - he took right to it so we're going to stick with the bottle/breast combo when he gets home.
I don't have any idea how to link to pics, I'm going to have Jeff do it for me *twirls hair*. So hopefully tonight or tomorrow I'll have pics to go with this post.

Congrulation for the baby!!!
And stay strong, when my little brother was born, he had fluid in his lungs too. It was very sary for my father, but after a couple of day on medication, he was fine and now he is pretty healthy and strong.
I'm sure that he will get better in no time! My thoughts are with you.
Congrats!!! :baby:
Thanks for giving us an update! He'll be home soon!

Congratulations!!!!!
We actually have a similar story. I did NOT have a scheduled c-section, but after 21 hours of labor, they "realized" (they actually knew it might be an issue) that my pelvis was too flat for my son to fit through, so a c-sec was the only route to take. He retained fluid in his under-developed lungs, and while in the BICU developed pneumonia. He was in for 11 days, and it was the most difficult 11 days of my life! It is the worst thing in the world to have to leave the hospital without your baby who's been apart of you for the last 9 months. My husband and I were with him day and night until he recovered. Anyway, when he did take a turn for the better, it was quick, so we had our overnight stay at the hospital for monitoring, and then we took him home!! He's now only been sick twice, and he's now 26 months. He'll be home in no time!!
Congrats again on your little one! They're awesome!!!

Haha! I'm such a dork. I didn't realize Jeff had already started a thread about Alex, DUH! :p
I went to the hospital to breastfeed Alex today, and his isolette was empty and his info board was erased. PANIC!!! Turns out he was moved to a different area of the NICU in a regular bassinette because of how great he's doing - but it would have been nice to know that beforehand.
There were pics in that other thread, but I tried to click on them and they didn't show up...gotta have him fix that. The ones he has now are better anyway, clear ones of his face with open eyes.

Congratulations! I'm sorry he has to be in the NICU, but it will pass quickly. My son was born at 28 weeks and was in for 10 weeks, and it passed surprisingly fast considering. It won't be long and you'll be looking back and it will seem miles away. ;)

Oh, good Lord. 10 weeks? I can't even imagine what that must have been like.
We're going to pick up Alex in about one hour. He comes home at 4, yay!! The boys are just chomping at the bit to hold their brother again, as are me and Jeff.

It was very difficult, but given that our first son never left the NICU, we probably were more patient then we might have been otherwise.
Congratulations on getting to bring him home today! How exciting and wonderful! I'll bet you're just over the moon! :D :D :D

Yes I did, some time ago. I remember you from over there. :) It's been MONTHS since I logged in at O2.
How is your little man doing? I bet you're thrilled to have him home!

Ahh, I knew it! How are your son's eyes doing?
Now that he's home, things are going well - we're just having a bit of trouble getting him used to the breast. Latching on is a bit of a crapshoot - but I know it's like that sometimes even if they haven't been on the bottle for a few days. So we're doing the nurse/pump thing for now which is kind of good to give my tatas a break sometimes. The boys keep running over anytime Alex makes the slightest whimper. They love their little brother. It's too cute.

Cameron had some issues with latching on, too. Oddly enough, it was after he'd been doing quite well with it. It straightened itself out and I just weaned him a few weeks ago.
Thank you for asking about him! His eyes are fine now. In fact, at his last appointment, she kept checking and checking and finally said they look absolutely perfect for his age. :D He's had some other issues since then, but so far things look more or less okay. He may have some developmental delays, but only time will tell. So far it seems to be pretty mild.
How sweet about your boys! Cynthia was like that too, until later when Cameron started getting louder, then she just said, "I love him, but sometimes I just wish he had a mute button!"

Thanks, he looks much cuter now that he's getting his own face (instead of newborn wrinkle). I have to get some of him now. A lot changes in a month.
