I want to cut dairy for my comp. prep and see how my body responds without the sugar from it. Would Lactose-Free milk be okay?

Lactaid still somehow has about the same amount of sugar as regular milk
My grocery has its own brand of enzyme-treated milk that only has 4g sugar, and I think 20g protein? Something like that would work, although I don't know if there's a similar product in other parts of the country.

Would soymilk be a good alternative? I feel like I need some sort of "dairy" without all the sugar.

I think most soy milks have more carbs and less protein than regular milk :(

HEB, the Mootopia line. I was wrong about the protein, btw, it's 14g/cup. Same nutritional stats as a serving of ff cottage cheese.

Have you looked at the ingredients list? Doesn't look anything like milk, to me. Or taste like it, for that matter.

I think I'm gonna keep my dairy for a bit longer. I bought some enzymes to help w/ digestion. I am still 15wks out so I have time.........I hope

Soy can mess with hormones. If you want a tsp of milk-like substance in your coffee, I don't think it's enough to worry about, but I couldn't see making it a dietary staple, particularly pre-contest when it's about the last time you want your thyroid or whatever to get messed up.

My coffee has really been my main concern. I can't drink it black and need to lighten it up w/ something

For that amount, I wouldn't be concerned about soy, but for that amount, why are you concerned about milk? Seems like it'd be hard to screw up your diet with a tsp of anything a day...unless, ya know, you had a fondness for cyanide or something...

 No, no cyanide, but I do use about 2 tbsp in my coffee. I like it REALLY light.

Have you thought about goat milk? The one i get has 4g carbs per 100mls and 3g fat, but if your worried about the fat i think you can get skim ones. I prefer the taste to normal milk, much more creamier and its much easier on the stomach

If you can find (and afford) it, go for it! :D

I like goat milk too...and goat yogurt..mmmmmmmmm......
I don't think they make low fat goat anything

Goat milk starts off leaner than cow's milk, so goat cheese is lower fat, etc. I haven't seen any reduced fat goat products, either, though.

How is the taste compared to cow's milk?

HI! I like too use either almond milk or brown rice milk. Would either of these be options for you? The almond milk is really good!

Use light cream, it goes further than milk. I would not be using milk or soy milk on a pre-contest diet.
And lactose-free milk isn't actually sugar-free...it just has been treated w/ the lactase enzyme...so the lactose is actually pre-digested for lactose-intolerant people. It still contains the same amount of "sugars" as regular milk.

Plus, you won't be on a contest diet forever. Why not start weaning yourself off the milk and cream?

Does this include all dairy. Cheese seems to have practically no sugars..and what about cc?

that's a commonly perpetuated myth. soy has PLANT estrogens, and therefore does not interfere with human estrogen in any way. they are two completely different kinds of estrogens that do not affect each other.
