How many fish oil pills are recommended each day? My bottle says 3, but I have been told 6-9. If it is 6-9, then why?

What are other sources of essential fatty acids? Is peanut. cashew, and almond butter essential fatty acids also? Or are they just "healthy" fats. What is the difference?

I also intake a little bit of olive oil.

I am a little confused about what EFA's are. If somebody could explain or direct me somewhere that could help me out, it would be much appreciated!!!!! :p

Quack Quack!!

6g of total fish oil seems to be what most of the research points to.

The amount of fish oil to take depends on your particular brand of fish oil. For general health, it's indicated to take 1g of active EPA/DHA per day. Most "standard" fish oil caps contain only about 150-200mg of EPA/DHA, so you'd have to take 6 a day (each capsule is 1g total weight) to get your 1gEPA/DHA.

The brand I take is pharmaceutical grade, ultra-concentrated, having 600mg active EPA/DHA per (1g by weight) cap. So I only have to take 2 a day.

Check yer label! ;)

I take both fish oil caps(6) and 2 tbsp flax oil each day.I usually use the flax in conjunction with balsamic vinegar to make a salad dressing or drizzle it on my broccoli. I am never sure when exactly I should take my fish oils though. Should those be considered part of my P/F meals or does it really matter?

It doesn't really matter; just be sure to get them in some time during the day. I take 3 capsules 2x/day.

Combined DHA/EPA per day is about 2-3,000mg. Most fish oil has different concentrations of the DHA/EPA so that's the focus.

I'm using krill oil. In krill oil, the EPA/DHA is present as a phsopholipid , not as a triglyceride (= 3 fatty acids, among which EPA/DHA and glycerol backbone).
By having these EFAs as a phospolipid it's being absorbed about 5x better.. as a result, for every 10 fish oil caps (regular strength) you only need 2 krill oil caps.
