Depends on the test. Some tests are more sensitive and pick up HCG earlier than others.

it's not the time after intercourse you need to be timing the test with, it's more along the lines of when you would normally miss your period. On a "normal" 28 day cycle, with day one being the first day of your last period, you probably ovulated around day 14 (but this varies for all women) and then would get your period again on day 28. Some tests work up to 4-5 days before your missed period, but again, this varies for all women.

I believe it takes a few days after ovulation for the fertilized egg to travel down the ol' fallopian tubes and implant into the uterus. Once it does that, your body starts producing HcG. This hormone takes a few days to build up in your urine and therefore be detected by a pee stick test.

Thanks for the explanation. The first time DH and I got pregnant we didn't even realize it until I was 6 weeks along! This time around I want to know a bit before hand.:rolleyes:
