What is up with my stomach?!
I just ate 1/2c of cottage cheese with splenda and cinnamon and my stomach is making all these noises -- like gas bubbles popping in my stomach. Not pretty.
I'm trying to decide if its the splenda or the cottage cheese... I've been having splenda in my water w/lemon all day... but I also had cheddar cheese this morning. So is it dairy or splenda??
I've read people having some issues like that with Splenda. Do you get this when you eat cottage cheese normally?
Rachel, I get this every once in a while when I eat cc. It happens maybe once a month or two. Then I lay off the cc for a few days and I'm fine. If I don't, the pains get worse. Almost like a dairy build-up...but that just sounds too weird.

Most likely the Splenda.
You will be farting soon!

I get the same thing at night too... but again, I have splenda AND cottage cheese in my oatmeal
I dont think I've ever had just plain cottage cheese.

hmm now that's something I've never heard before
Do you think its dairy or cottage cheese? I'm trying to think of a protein source I could stick in my oatmeal at night instead...
Hmm, maybe if I reduce the amounts I have (I have a cup a day) do you think the side effects will go away?
I would try eliminating the splenda and see if you notice a difference. If not then eliminate or reduce the cc. I can only tolerate 1/2 cup a day on most days...sadly.
You can't have pp or other meats?

As of right now, no PP, but definitely other meats and things!
I'll see what happens if I decrease cc to 1/4c at night.
Any good protein sources I can sub in as snacks besides eggs? I eat like, 3 a day for breakfast lol

hmmm, all my protein comes from meat, cc, and pp. I occascially have eggs but not often.
They do have Lactaid Cottage cheese but it does have an aftertaste and I wouldn't eat it unless it was totally mixed with something else...boy, that probably makes you want to run right out and buy it, huh? :funny:

hahaha oh baby do I ever! Mmmm foul-tasting cc... sign me up!! :p
But during the afternoon at work... I was thinking of picking up some black or kidney beans and make this: http://food.cookinglight.com/cooking/recip...ecipe_id=577244 (http://food.cookinglight.com/cooking/recipefinder.dyn?action=displayRecipe&recipe_id=577244)
But other than that I'm at a loss... I eat eggs in the morning, chicken for lunch... geezus all I have is chicken, eggs, tuna/salmon and cc  Does ricotta count as protein? Or would that upset my stomach too?
What do you all pack for afternoon snackies at work?

update: just ate a piece of cheese and my stomach is making those weird noises again :( I have a doctors apt this week neways but it looks like the culprit is dairy? :(
How come I didnt feel anything from the cheddar this morning then?
Is there something I can take to help? Lactaid?

If people are getting issues from cheese that they are saying is lactose, think again. Cheese does not contain adequate lactose to make that much of a difference.
It could be the protein, it could just be random stuff, it could be a worm the size of your arm curling its way through your colon

mmhmm big mistake.. I made it once.. Naturopath said I was sensitive to dairy, I took it as lactose intolerance.. till I got pulled up by a clever guy... oops...
I'm ok with my little bit of cheese now.. and my protein shake.. but I wasn't for some time.. not sure how that one figures.. but so far so good...
have you tried mixing your egg whites in your oatmeal? as in... while its cooking.. I used to do that with my rice porridge.. it doesn't taste like eggs.. tastes kinda nice actually...with the splenda and some blueberries..

Can you eat some carbs? Protein by itself on an empty stomach never agrees with me.

WHEY and CASEIN allergies are common--and often mistaken as a lactose allergy.
so one thinks they are fine with protien powders or cottage cheese, etc and still have problems.

hmmm you know... it might be a whey allergy.
I'll see what my doctor says... although knowing her she'll think I'm overreacting (which I have a history of doing -- I jump to conclusions too often lol)
Thanks everyone :)
Just a quick q: can i use ricotta cheese as a source of protein? or is it more a fat?

I'm thinking of getting some black beans, ricotta cheese...?
I have chicken, cottage cheese, hard cheese, eggs, eggbeaters, egg whites...
Anything else I'm missing? Any ideas? :)

I practically live off of ground turkey breast.
Also, lean cuts of beef every once in awhile, lean pork (tenderloin) are also acceptable protein sources.
As for FF ricotta - mix 1/4 c ricotta with 1 T almond butter, a little splenda, a few drops of almond and vanilla extract = almond pudding. :) I just ate some five minutes ago!
