How do you guys get around this? I'm thinking about buying some ace wraps and wrapping my shins before DLing.

I usually get more of a thigh burn than a calf scrape. Either way I find wearing pants helps.

I wear long pants to deadlift most of the time, but I have wrapped my shins in ace bandages when DLing in short pants.

You could also try wearing knee socks.

Okay I don't use them, but you could :D

I just wear pants but shins still get raped...

I got it right on top of my knees, too. Not as obvious in the picture. It's too hot to wear pants, though.

Man up and wear pants. It's never too hot for pants.

I thought the bar wasn't supposed to touch your legs. Have I been doing things incorrectly?

It depends on what kind of deadlift you are doing. Either way, don't really see how you can not hit your upper thighs on any deadlift.

For regular deads, some drag up their shins, some do not. My sumos tear up my shins pretty good, but my conventional pull usually doesn't hit my shins.

I always hit my upper thighs just some times I bruises and some times I don't

I always wear pants+knee socks and I still get shins with scrapes...I'm seriously thinking of wearing shin guards!! No one would see them anyways!:D

A lot of lifters actually do use shin guards in training.

It's hard to ignore, when you rip off the scabs from the previous session and the blood starts running down into your socks. :baby:

anyone else object to the word "rape" being used in such a cavalier manner?

just a thought. Perhaps we could add an 's' and a 'c' and quit pissing on the women who have actually suffered through such a horror?

I really hoped his shins weren't sexually assaulted.

But there is more than one definition of rape and we all understand that he means:

# Abusive or improper treatment; violation

I guess keeping a pad on the bar would keep it too far away from your legs than you want it?

Hmm maybe I'm not lifting heavy enough if I'm not bleeding and bruised by the end of my workouts...

Accismus, there are world-class PL'ers who don't get messed up shins from deadlifting. I'm going to take a wild guess and say that scrapes are not indicative of how heavy one is training. I've burst blood vessels in my eyes and torn my palms to shreds, but I've never scraped my shins...and that isn't one of my future workout goals.

Smiles, pads are silly. And yes, they'd keep the bar away from your body, which would really mess with the lockout.

How about some dorky tube socks - the kind with the stripes at the top?

Someone push me off a cliff if I ever wear those (again   )

I would say to learn how to pull more efficiently. If youre dragging on your shins then youre reducing the speed of the bar on the way up.

I am fully aware that we all know what he means. That's not the point. Everyone knows that to "jew someone down" means to bargain with them and get a "better" deal, but it's still wrong to say it.

As for the alternate definition, well, I guess technically speaking it's all right to use the word, but I think socially and ethically, it's not IMO. I know I am sensitive about this... I just hear people say it a lot using "alternative" definitions and it always rubs me the wrong way. No need to continue the argument I guess- not gonna change the world. I need to just learn to ignore people.

I need something for this to. I've started dreading DL's because it hurts to scrape the same spot over and over. It's also messy. Where can I get these shin wraps?
